Can anyone in all honesty say the Z32 manual gearbox is very good?

I know I am pushing the boat out with the BHP but people with even stock cars have their 4th gear syncros let go, even with a quick shift its as sloppy as a 1989 Ford Escort

I know the 350Z is 17 years ahead of the Z32 but Nissan really have got this box sorted. It is the BEST gearbox I have ever had the pleasure of using

Mac still in search of what to do about the Z32 box :wack: :wack: :wack:

My gearbox was shot with sloppy change and no reverse. I sent it to CTS on the A5 near luton and they fixed the reverse issue with a full engine rebuild and the sloppy change with new bushes. Now it changes just as sweetly as my 2 yr old pug 307.....

don't laugh cuz they have a nice change.

not being one to hijack a thread, I will start a new one with a question about 6sp...

noticed yesterday and this morning that mine seems to be making a bit of a grinding noice but only when the clutch is pressed?

Could this be a thrust bearing or something? Apart from that think that the box is quite tight and a nice shift!

mines a 94 tt

I'm sure the problem is down to short shifters speeding up the change so it's quicker than the box was designed for.

It was never designed to be taking 500+bhp and changing up twice as quick!

think the 350z box has been discussed before and should fit without too much hastle, thing is is getting hold of them at decent prices, as you got to pay new prices for the box and not 15 yr old price for zed boxes!

No mate but I took one for a test drive and the box was awesome!

it is indeed

mantav8 What about one of these?

would hope they are for the amount of £££ they asking!! would have thought you could sort a 350z box or even skyline one for that sort of cash!

Yeah!-but Ian's loaded! :D

Good plan. You want one that's had a fast road rebuild. ;)

MAC had the fast road box in his car at one stage, i know mines got his friggin name in it lol.

I know ;)

i think its the short shifter as people have said, mines a short shift and pretty much will grind everytime u try 4th at high revs, gonna try mt90, really really hope its the answer, otherwise im gonna go for a new box. like it was said these are 15 years old and not designed to take the sort of power we squeeze out of them.

Hope it works for you Jack.

I bought a brand new box and it started to go tits up at 186mph on the rolling road when we had the car mapped.

PS MT oil used and it did not work:(

How about one of those auto boxes Greg D uses on his 9.9 sec zed. It would be expensive to get it over here, but maybe you could get the spec off him and get someone to build it in the UK.

I am looking at going down this road to be honest;)

TBH both the std auto and manual seem shite, nissan must have run out of budget lol

I would'nt say that. The autobox yes, its pretty much Guaranteed to fail, especially if it gets a hint of extra power.

But the manual IS strong, and can take a lot of power, but there is a known(but not common) 4th Gear syncro wear issue with age/abuse, and syncros are servicable/rebuildable.

I bet if I still had it fitted it would be fine! 51X is running 470bhp with the same box and has no problems with it

so anyone got a rough idea how much itd cost to rebuild my box? bearing in mind im looking as i may well be running as much as 520bhp in the future? is the standard box gonna break even if i get it rebuilt, whats the limits?!

Am i reading that graph right? 186 mph with an AFR of over 15????? eeeeekkkkk.

hmm you tried quaife (spelling) see what they can do for you?

Am perfectly happy with my manual, no probs normal driving or dragging it and it's running 475lb of torque through it ;)

Previous owner did say though that the box was reconditioned by SE which would be about 8 years ago now.
