Can anyone in all honesty say the Z32 manual gearbox is very good?

I know I am pushing the boat out with the BHP but people with even stock cars have their 4th gear syncros let go, even with a quick shift its as sloppy as a 1989 Ford Escort

I know the 350Z is 17 years ahead of the Z32 but Nissan really have got this box sorted. It is the BEST gearbox I have ever had the pleasure of using

Mac still in search of what to do about the Z32 box :wack: :wack: :wack:

Maybe it just took 3 years to think up a reply LOL

Been told my box noise is just bearings and will probably go on for a lot of miles yet so I'm sticking with it for now.

Got too many other things to sort out on the car yet so no point paying out loads before I get it through the MOT.

I can honestly say (touch wood) there is nothing wrong with my gear box.

Its as tight as a chamels arse in a sand storm. Yet is very very smooth since i changed all the oils :)

With any gear box if you Bang it into gears then sooner or later somthing is going to give

HKS did a 6 speed box for the Z32. I once gave Luke at Z Centre a catalogue from Japan that had it in......IRC it was about £4k so not cheap.

I thought it was about £8K from what I remember.

Is that the one that the guy from Grasshopper (can't remember his name now) put in his R32 and it lasted weeks and they wouldn't do anything under warranty!

Not sure if that was 4 wheel drive or not though.

Just get a Tremek TK500 and make a bellhousing adapter.

It takes 500 ft/lb of torque and they're about 2.5-3k that's what i'm using on the V8 and not heard a bad thing about them

Chris I've no idea :o

In reality I doubt they still offer it as demand must be miniscule anyway ! Unless they've got a few gathering dust in a warehouse somewhere.......

Although 500 ib/ft torque capability is less than a stock z box. That figure will be at the fly, and Mac's is on about 650-700 ib/ft fly.

I quite fancy a a tremek/Borg warner T56 6speed box.

They do lots of different versions though, with different ratios and power handing capablities, all from different vehicles.

Is the stock zed box really more capable? Are there any figures on the torque it takes?

T56 would be nice, i did think about that for the chevy but the 500 came up first for a very good price so decided it would be a bit more hardy than the T5

MOT, Not like you to have an MOT Chris LOL. :p

box wise the z32's choices are very limited

you can fit an os giken gear set and strengthened centre plate for around £2500-£3000

you can get a ppg dog cut gear set for around £3000

other than that if you wanted to go 6 speed and sequencial then your looking at between £8k to £15k, they guys at RB Motorsports said they could make a os giken 6 speed seq box fit the zed with a little work and its one of the best boxes you can get but your talking around £9k ish

hollinger do a good box for around £7k and you can buy via jun a fitting plate.

also on top of these your talking a £2k clutch to match up to either box :)

also spoke to a guy near silverstone who specialises in building gearboxes and could make a box for around £15k with your own choice of gears and he guarantees it for upto 2000 bhp LOL
