Perforated Sleeve on petrol pipe

I just change my fuel filter today and also change the pipe going from it. It had a sleeve on it which I took off to put on the new one only I can't get it on! Just wondering what it is for and if it is really necessary to put it back on?

    I think its there to prevent chafing , adds a bit of protection to your fuel pipe :hyper: HTH

    Yes could be that. What about to stop it expanding under pressure, don't know what psi the fuel is under or if it would make a differance.
