considering upgrading the cams along with other bits and pieces -

now from my limited knowledge, do upgraded cams really cause lumpy idle?

have seen jwt and tomei advertised - are there any major differences or things to be wary of?

i understand that the valve springs normally have to be uprated, and was looking at solid lifters - the tomei website also talk about using shims for the lifters??

sorry for all the questions - any experience/advice appreciated!

all depends on what sort of power you want?? the size turbos you want etc??

the higher lift the cams the more power they make the higher in the rev range so if its fast response then stick to lower lift ones poss even UK spec cams

if i was to choose between JWT and Tomei i would choose Jun or Tomei ;)

Like he says Mowgs, I would choose Jun over the other two. Its a must if you are building a decent powered engine, solid lifters and big cams will unlock more power FACT!

excellent - cheers guys!

You might find that you can get a stock set reground to a profile the same as Jun / JWT / Tomei's milder types much cheaper. Try Piper or Newman, should be able to do it no problem.

Idle will still be OK as 'wild' turbo cams are still pretty low duration with not much overlap. VTC reduces overlap at idle anyway if you keep it.

If you get really aggressive profiles then idle can be difficult to sort on a MAF equipped car as you get reversion through the inlet and it messes up the metering. Having said that I think even the biggest duration JUN did when I was looking into it was about 270 degrees quoted face to face didn't see the timing figures for them though.

There is a very good engine builder/tuner near me in Dagenham that will grind up a set of cams for a very good price.

they're all good. JWT are proven to work in the states and are well priced, though the tomei set + solid lifters are very tempting :)

Exactly!!!

It seems like tomei are edging ahead at the mo -

Are there any other parts i should be thinking of when doing the cams, apart from springs and lifters??

do the valve guides have to be changed/uprated?

can they still be used with standard/non-adjustable cam gears?

Baz - have you got any more info on the place near you please? - and where ya been!!

hope alls well bud!

thanks for the help so far fellas!

Mowgs the cams are only of use if you are going for considerably larger turbos, so unless you are then it is money that could be maybe directed into better areas?

Looking at JWT Sport 530 BB's - or similar.

Are they suitable?
