Hi guys, took my zed out for a drive today as i hadnt moved her for a week or so. Thing was i got to the end of the road and came to break at a junction and the brake pedal went full travel and the car still wasnt slowing effectively.

Carried on the rest of the drive bit more cautiously and the brakes definatly were not up to much. Since ive had the zed ive always thought the brakes should be better. Just wondering now if the fluid might need changing / brakes bleeding etc.

The brakes are stock calipers with ebc drilled and grooved discs so surly the braking shouldnt be that bad.

Ive never changed brake fluid / bled brakes before, so just wondering what the symptoms are and how to go about it...

cheers all

Just a point...

Ive got standard discs and QH cheapo pads and never had any problems with my brakes as allways pulled up nicely.

All i can suggest is a flush out of brake fluid and braided lines...

im sure someone will tell you how to do this

Many people go for the Brembo calipers from a Skyline as an upgrade but if you get the standard calipers rebuilt properly with good discs and pads they are actually pretty good. I would also recommend a fluid change to start with as you mentioned the pedal travelled to the floor. See what that does as its the cheapest starting point but may be the master cylinder or something thats packed up / leaking.

how do i go about swapping the fluid and flushing the lines/ bledding then guys? What sort of fluid should i stick in? i had the fluid swapped on my old 200 when i uprated the brakes for some dot5.1 fluid but by AP, but wondering what people use in their zeds

could be the master cylinder, check fluid level and check for leaks around the pot,if that checks out, bleed the brakes with some fresh fluid, also check the the brake servo and related hoses for splits/cracks

Not done mine yet, still waiting for some bits to arrive ;), have a look through the service manual, at this page >> http://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=br&dir=&config=&refresh=&direction=forward&scale=0&cycle=off&slide=5&design=default&total=56

Give it a good read, as the previous link is written for the US, so is Lefthand drive!! :D

Dot 5.1 is what I went for in the end, as I doubt you'll find 3 anymore.

How much 5.1 do i need to flush the lines and then replace to full?
