300zx enquiry and hi :)

hi all

i own a vauxhall calibra :) and am a member of their forums and they are a helpful bunch so i'm hoping the 300zx enthusiasts are just as helpful.

I'm looking at getting me a zx this summer hopefully and have some general enquiries.

Im 23 with 2 yr ncb with specialist insurance company who will insure me cheaply on a uk 3litre tt but wont touch me on a jap import of any kind (new regs which sux).

This means I can only go for uk cars.

What are the prices of the various 300zx's for a uk car and the availability.

i will have around 2-4k to spend.

What are the common problems found (if any) and things to look for when buying?

Also what are the good points of the cars (against other performance jap cars)?

I have always dreamed of owning one and hope I am able to find one but any help and info/advice you guys can supply the better because then I will know what I'm getting myself into :p

Sorry to post here without actually owning a zx but I felt that asking the experts would be the best course of action lick>

thanks again and look forward to the replies.

Welcome Sev,

No reason to stick with same Ins company, shop around for insurance. Search this forum for insurance companies, you'll find loads of suggestions.

In regards to budget, you get what you pay for at the end of the day.

I would set a Min budget of £3.5k for a clean standard example in average condition. Typically, The less you pay the more it will cost you in the long run.

Good points...hmm, can I say everything ? :D Performance, Looks, Road prescence, Z-car Heritage. The original Jap "supercar".

Some performance stats :

Twin Turbo (Euro and Jap)

280 bhp - 300bhp

283 Ib/ft

0-60 : 5.5 secs

0-100 : 14.5 secs

1/4 Mile : 13.8 - 14.2 secs

Top speed : 170 mph + (Uk restricted to 155mph and Jap to 112mph)

Although, Car and Driver in 1992 got the following figures from a SWB TT :

0-60 mph: 5.0 sec.

0-100: 13.1 sec.

Quarter Mile Time: 13.7 sec.

Basic mods (Exhaust, filter, chip, 1 bar boost) will see power raise to 350-380bhp, 0-60 under 5secs and 0-100 around 12 secs

Check out the Regional Meets forum section and pop along to your nearest next Meet.

Good luck with the purchase.
