Well I have and now I am going to put it back in the car and this is why

I have two cans of tyre repair in the boot as my front space saver will not fit on my front wheels because of my large callipers and discs. ChrisC had a split in his front tyre on Saturday and because the car was fitted with a spare wheel from factory the AA told him he was not covered and it cost him £280 to be recovered from Newark.

So for anyone that has a big brake conversion I think the only way this can be sorted is to have a hub spacer made for the front to allow the space saver to be used in an emergency.

lol my car cant use the space saver as its lowered. With the space saver fitted the front spoiler would be touching the floor.

Is the space saver a smaller diameter than the standard wheels ?

yep same happened to me Iain

when i bought her soop i had a blow out on the way back

and when i first told them i didn't have a spare they said i would have to pay

so i said ok just get me home, then i found the space saver

BUT because it had a bodykit and was to low for their equipment i was still gonna have to pay for it being modified, BUT lol the other rear tyre was barely legal so they are not allowed to fit spares to allow you to run on illegal tyres, so i got them to transport me home and bought 4 new tyres

they still had to get another wagon that went flat onto the road to get it on

so you have to be careful over tyres and mods :(

one option as a get you home if you live a couple of miles away, is to put the space saver on the rear and swap the rear wheels to the front, obviously this is at your risk as this won't work with very wide wheels/lowered cars.

i still have the space saver , however i bought another spare tribe alloy and had tyre fitted, i can just stick that one iff need be if i have to go anywhere far i take it with me, if not i put the space saver back in if im local.

Interesting point to consider

I can just use the "Topless" plan, I still have my spacesaver in the boot.

remember and tell the AA where to stick there subscription !!

still cheaper than getting dragged off the motorway by a recovery wagon m8

although price ChrisC was quoted don't sound to clever:(

i had the blow out on the M6 and as i said the first guy had to get another low loader, so cost me £90 to go about 40 miles

if it happened in the zx no way would i drive 40 miles with a polo mint on the axle, so would prefer to pay the fee rather than the possible damage

been in the AA for years and that was first blow out so hopefully................

I have 2 very different space savers:

my UK series 1 spec has same diameter as wheels, but a lot thinner

my jap series 2 spec has smaller diameter but is a lot wider than the uk (possibly normal wheel width)

Interesting, I have Jap Series II and to the best of my knowledge the space saver diameter is the same (would be strange if it wasn't), but obviously it's much thinner.

AA told me the same when I had a puncture. Not sure how that works in regards to new cars like the Bmw M5 that dont have a space saver, just tyre weld foam.

If the car does not have a spare from the factory then the AA will cover you.

Was in the AA for 10 years never used them once, Had to call them twice in year 11 cause the wifes Cossie stopped. They sent me a bill for the second recovery .. So told them to stick it. You can get any car lifted around here for about £40 ish.

Yeah I need to get this sorted ASAP, was a nightmare.

Problem I have is the big brakes stop the space saver going on the front and I decided that to use it on the rear with a 285/18" on the other axle with hub spacers would be plain dangerous. I don't think I'd be able to do more than 25mph.

If I'd had the space saver with me and swapped the rear wheel to the front I think my huge wheels would have stuck out of the arch and ripped that too.

Was just my luck it happened at 5pm on bank holiday saturday night so they could charge me what they liked really, I had no choice.
