Am I the only person who appears to have less confidence in themselves with engines etc as they get older? In my teens I used to regularly completely strip and rebuild motorbike engines and gearboxes without a fear or apprehension in the world, now at 43, having let the garages take the strain with new under warrantee cars for the last 15+ years, I’m keen to do most work on my Z myself, but have a few fears.
I’ve not become totally useless with age, having restored 4 houses, built a 50m2 two story extension 100% myself, built a 25KW generator from scratch this winter, and am always modding stuff in the garden like big tow behind mowers etc.
Despite the Z engine appearing to be hard to work on, so far the minor things that I have done have been fun and easy (induction filter, vacuum hose change, brake to fog light conversion), but I’m in two minds about doing the Cambelt change myself.
