New shape on an F plate??

I am picking up my 300zx twin turbo Wednesday night its been imported straight fom japan when i phoned the dealer to get the reg for insurance he tells me its been registered on an F plate its an 89 model but new shape 300s dont come on an F the look of it doesnt bother me as its going on a private plate but does this sound normal to you or are they ripping me off?

Sounds like a Z31 on a F plate ie it is the old shape; the Z32 was 1990-96

Private plate or not, old shape is old shape

Ripping you off - depends on if he's charging for later model price

But, I could be wrong!

its definately new shape ive seen it and drove it chasis no begins gcz32 first registered 1989

G is the earliest that you can get one without a private plate. However you can request a plate that makes your car seem older with no problems.

now im getting really confused, its probably gonna cause me a shitload of hassle when i come to sell it ive already put a deposit on it and its a lovely car but this f plate thing really bothers me anyone thats got any advice before wednesday night would be really helping me out, i dont want to buy it if its dodgy.

i think it depends on what details were supplied to dvla to give the plate.

if they were given a registration date before 08/89, then it would legally be an F plate in uk

i think they were first available from 06/89 so it is possible that it is one of the first ones made

They (DVLC?) only estimate the manufacturing date of the car and they tend to be conservative so as not to give a newer plate than the car should have. My car was actually manufactured in Nov '92, (K plate), but I got a J plate when it was registered. Unless you can find proof of the manufacturinfg date from Nissan then you get stuck with their translation of the documents supplied.

There are some Z32 import cars driving around on "F" plates, as Craig says, they were sold in both Japan and the US in 1989.

You can see some old archive photos with both Z31 and Z32 models coming off the production line together.

If you're putting a private plate on then it doesn't really matter anyway.Condition is more important with older cars than the registration plate. You could buy an immaculate F reg or a thrashed M reg.

I have seen a Z31 on an "H" plate, it must have been hanging around in the showroom before being sold.

"F" plated Z32 is more common than you think, I know when I had my first 1989 model that the container it came in had two z32 in and they sat along each other with 1989 written on the windscreen I bought the one with the big exhaust (only difference) and a guy who lived 12 miles from me had the other one, later we met up and mine had a G reg on and his and F reg down to the guy at DVLC I guess. Jeff TT

being a F plate is not a problem, mine is also on a F plate but masked with a private plate.

from discussions earlier on the forum mine seemed to be one of the first to be made wink.gif

cheers

Mine is also an F plate Jap import. There are quite a few around

Not at home to check, but.....

The Importer should have a copy of the Japanese De-Registration document (I believe he has to provide this to DVLA). Ask to see a copy of this, I think this will show the month the vehicle was first registered in Japan.

I can check my paperwork when I get home, if that helps, but I would talk to the importer.

This link from Ben's site may help, but does not cover the month http://www.aus300zxclub.com/tech/year.htm

Geoff

** Checked details at home. The "Cancellation Certificate of Registration" document shows the month & year first registered in Japan. **
