Jesus!

Travelling back up the A12 after seeing my poorly girlfriend a couple of hours ago, not going too fast (thankfully) and BANG. Car pulled to the left quite hard and I knew that the N/S tyre was kaput. Luckily I was near a junction and got off the road safely. No jack in the Zed so I had to get the AA to come and put the ridiculous yellow spare on so I could crawl the rest of the way home :(

Just calming down now with a brandy - that wasn't part of my Good Friday plan.

I had the same last year, rather scary, especially when in outside lane going past a tosser who doesn't know how to use all three lanes of a motorway. Luckily felt it go, held on, slowed down and fortunately only damage was the tyre.

i had the same thing happen to me TWICE on the same stretch of road out side Shrewsbury doing about 90.

But to be honest they where both front wheels and the Z handeled it realy well.If id been in my BM id have sh1t myself.

I'd never had a blowout before, but I must say the Zed didn't jerk around like I thought it might. Still cacked my pants a bit tho! I think that the wheel is OK, touch wood...

Could it have been caused by overfilling the tyre? It was recommended 32psi but the guage on my tyre pressure thingy was playing up and it could have been more like 34.

90km/h obviously!! ;)

Glad all are OK thou!!

lol!

Cheeky bugger.... The speedo had been working a bit earlier as well! I was guessing my speed on Revs at the time tho!

Thanks guys, I'm OK and the main thing is so is the Zed ;)

this is why i am thinking of getting some of those run-flat tyres next time round

what do you all think

Run flat tyres are good for punctures, but if you have a true blow-out then you've completely lost tyre integrity, and you're possibly no better off.

I think, IMHO, etc :D

run flats give a REALLY hard ride, so if your zed is slightly lowered / poly bushed etc to firm up the ride you will need a spinal board when you get out on run flats.!! you also need some sort of electrical warning fitted to let you know if the tyre has gone flat as it is difficult to tell on run flats. A friend of mine had them on his cooper s works, and to be honest he hated them from the off. When he swapped them for decent tyres was more impressed with handling and ride...

Ah, yes, maybe he did mean that... I thought it was because Chunk knew I'd taken the converter out to try and solve by speedo problem.

But that's right, yes. 90kph it was, maybe even slower.

In fact I think I was cruising behind a tractor at the time... ;)
