Many moons ago they acctually produced a V8 metro the engine sat behind the driver and I saw one at a show. It looked OK and quite cool. But then again so did the Morris Ital ??????? at the time. £26,000. basically for a body kit and a V6 engine. Maybe some decent springs thrown in. but what else are you getting FFS its a METRO. :headvswal

Nah, it's no more a Metro than a Renault F1 car is a Renault 5.

all well and good what its done/does

but spend 26k form a line who would pay it???

before you would spend the same cash

As much as you wouldn't pay it and neither would I, the car is very rare and quite collectable....more so (dare I say it...?) than a DB?

i'd rather collect debts;)

im sorry but is this jsut one big wind up?! someone nicked this off barryboys? that thing is fooking hideous! your not telling me that bodywork is standard surely? it looks like something stuck on for a laugh! i mean something like the clio v6, actually looks purpose built and in my opinion quite nice, but this looks horrible!!! fair enough its fast, very fast but people actually saying theyd rather have that than a zed??? behave!!

You obviously don't know anything about the car I take it. The bodywork is standard. It's a purebred rally car, same as the RS200 was. It's more purpose build and hardcore than any Clio V6.

It's certainly not attractive, although I think it looks pretty mean.

I'd rather have Zed though, but you can't really take the piss out of a car that was as impressive in its day as Evos and Scoobys are today in the rally world.

I know, but everyone's ripping the piss out of it. It was at one time up there with the greats such as the Audi Quattro. The 6R4 (the last models made, earler versions had 250) came out with 400bhp...not bad for a car that wasn't even turbocharged. Also, as the name would suggest, it has 4wd. Could quite easily outhandle and outperform almost every Zed in the country...so you can see why some people would prefer it. ;)

no i do understand, its just so ugly! and jsut couldnt see how anyone would prefer it to a zed thats all!

thank you FunkySi, someone with sense!

whether we would prefer z over a 6r4 or vice verse is irrelevant and opinion. which is the quicker, better handling of the two is undeniably the 6r4.

remember, just cos i'd rather have it over a stock zed doesn't mean i hate zeds! just that the two are incomparable!

I agree with you in a way but the 6R4 was a road car made into a race/rally car. the renault is a totally different story. But I get where you are coming from. I just think if I am going to spend £26K then I at least dont want it to appear like I have spent it on a metro.

26K and you will get nearly what me, Jasson and maybe a few more people have, ok mac has spent the whole euro lotto on his lol, but look at our cars then look at that,................................................................................................................ thought so, not comparrason.

It was never as successful as the Audi? It was never as widly spoken about as the scooby or Evo's of today. It was raved about but only really within the rally enthusiasts world. OK yes a fast car but why oh why would anyone in their right mind build a rally car from the ground up use a METRO as the donor car??????

I can only think of one reason........"Drug addiction"

No it was never as sucessful becuase that class of car was removed/banned or whatever after a season or so. Also, the Metro wasn't a donor car, they just had to make it look like a Rover porduction model, so they dropped Metro look-a-likee bodywork on it (probably the worst decision of all LOL).

They were awsome in the rallycross days but as i recall they were like Balsa wood

When it touched anything everything flew of it like Scalextic mighty metros !!

PMSL. Ok its getting boring now. Vigilante mate You can buy a metro for about £50 almost anywhere and the spend a few quid here..Metro/6R4

HTH. :D

That is a classic Group B rally car, a piece of history and also:

Interesting story....

The 6r4's engine was a rover 3.5 v8 with two of the cylinders taken off and the rally version was also the engine they based the XJ220's on, it was a slightly modified version.

It was acctually built on a maestro chassis Andy. and they used the metro look to try and promote the Metro as a competent rally car?? it had a Rover V8 engine converted for some reason to a V6. My point was that in all tense and purposes it is a metro you see going down the road? :D

In all seriousness I would consider buying it come winter time as it looks like it has a handy little snow plough on the front. lol I would have the fastest little snow plough in the SoutWest.

Without a dout one of the ugliest rally cars ever but one of the best.

The Stratos was damn ugly as well and that allways gets admaration.

Its no more a Metro than my car.

Yes I would buy it, but only to put it in a garage along side other legends.

Forget the badge it was one of the best.

If you know anything about the 6R4 you have to give it major amounts of respect DESPITE what it looks like.

word up.

and no i havent driven either, i don't need to to know which is the better car in stock form!

The 6r4 was a very quick car and a whole lotta fun. Not the prettiest of cars but you don't buy it for looks, you buy it for performance and for that it would spank the zed..but the zed is better looking and more practical...
