As some of you may know, I'm having to part with my Z to afford the stamp duty on my new house. :(

So obviously I'm gonna need something to get me from A-B. Been looking at cheap hot hatches and I'm choosin between these.

Saxo VTS Mark1

Golf Gti Mk3 16v

I had a vtr a while back and was a nice car, at the time, think you would end up disapointed after a zed alittle, but it will handle better than the golf, and risking insult from others, i wouldnt have even included a punto on my list, they not great IMHO.

Guess common sense catches up with us all, hope you get back in a zed soon... any reason you not got any of the fords on your list?

Yeah I'm expecting to be dissapointed so that doesn't matter so much. Just has to be done unfortunately,

Basically I'm looking for a car that does 0-60 in under 8 secs as thats what my old Civic Vti did. That was juuuusst about quick enough.

mazda for me mate, good reliability too

You've chosen my favourite so far. They look tidy with nice wheels on and they're damn cheap for what you get too! :D

In that price range, I'd consider ALL those (and maybe more).

Buy whichever you see a really nice example of - don't be picky which make / model it is. IMHO anyway!

neither of your choices for me, the ones i have had that were good were

an fiesta mk3 rs1800 (not turbo) quite rare, but quite quick and handle well

mk2 golf gti valver, then stick a mk3 vr6 engine and box in there for some serious fu, thats what i did lol

wouldnt go for a hothatch, would go for a porker 944 myself, cheap, reliabe, handle well and go prretty good too.

My bros looking at a MX3 at the mo..

R reg 1.8 v6,

58,000miles,

12 months MOT

£1495.

Very reasonable I think for what you get. HAve you been in one? Do they go alright?

get the V6 one if you want one of these.Quite quick i think they max out at 130mph and not many people know about them.

They had £1500 to spend. I have £1200 :(

1200 would get u a decent 200sx s13 or renualt 5 gtt, both fast as fook turbos, i know the 200 is quite a hatchback but its good fun and cheap as chips to work on.

205 gti. 1.9s are quick, well fun to drive.

about as much fun to work on as a zed though! head on/off 3 times in 2 days was NOT FUN!

im downgrading soon from my leon cupra, 200sx looks like a good car! anyone know the insurance group?

200SX would be good, yeah.

From your original list though, I'd go for MX3 V6. Smallest ever mass-produced V6 engine but still has the V6 sound! 0-60 is just over 7 secs and they're lovely looking cars. I was going to get one a couple of years ago, but I couldn't afford it at the time so I bought a 2.5 V6 Cavalier. Not quite as classy.
