Guys, daft question I know , but im in lincolnshire and my digital reception isnt what it should be. THe aerial in the house is pretty new and I have tried tuning my new tv with just the aerial and with a signal booster.

What happens is i get most of the channels all the time, but only sometimes can i get the hits, tmf Men and motors and the radio stations. Where I work gets everything and its only a mile away, just wondering if i can find out which way my aerial should be pointing (and try the more scientific way rather than just moving it round until it gets better...)

any advice welcome, else i might be in the loft all weekend...

deffo have the aerial externally mounted, much better than in the loft. Also, if you are using a signal booster then try removing it, sometimes they can cause degradation of the digital signal.

Glad you got it sorted, Lincolnshire can be a bit of a pain at times. I assume you're pointing it towards the Belmont transmitter now? :D

Get Sky Bud,mine is only £15 a month.I think they are doing a free install and half price monthly at the mo.

As I have Sky and Freeview, I see the only problem to only having Sky is that in about five years time there won't be any analogue signal being transmitted anymore, so for every TV and Video/DVDR that you have it'll need some sort of Digital receiver.

At about only £30 for a decent box most people can receive upto 86 channels at the moment staright off (hopefully even more in the future) OK so some will need a new ariel, and some cant pick up a decent picture yet, but once the analogue is switched off there will be more power to transmit and at a better signal rate. A lot of people won't need to upgrade their ariel at all, my dad has one on the roof that hasn't been changed since the early 70's along with the cable as well, but he recieves perfect digital signals.

I've just started looking into this as well. We're in a "weak" reception area and despite the fact I can get a decent freeview signal for most channels (not TMF, the hits, etc) with the use of a signal booster, it still isn't great.

So, I contacted our local aerial expert in the village and this 70 year old grandfather comes out with is Transit van and ladder(s). Goes up on the roof (I nearly shat myself as it has been VERY windy lately) and comes down with the typical "things aren't looking good" look on his weathered face.

Turns out the antenna is about 17 years old and not suited to receive digital signals (despite the fact it's pointing in the right direction).

His suggestion (and he said this with a completely straight face):

Ultra wideband aerial

4-way signal booster

New coaxial cable to each point in the house

Total cost, including fitting: £485 + VAT!!!!!!

At that point I fell over, shat myself and nearly kicked his boney arse off my property! Thieving barsteward!

I've now done some further research and have found all the equipment I need for just over £85 and I'll borrow my neighbour's roof ladder and do the job myself.

Anyone have a spare parachute for when I get blown off the roof?

Dan

   But the thing is, the closer it gets to analogue switch-off time, these prices will get worse! Simply because they now that the average no-hoper TV viewer and the elderly won't know any different!

For anyone wanting to see if they can receive Freeview at their home address, click here >> http://www.freeview.co.uk/ type in your post code and press the GO button. But don't dispare if it says that you can't receive it, as according the the site, I've never been able to get it where I live at the moment, that's funny as I have three TV sets that receive a perfect picture ;) But then I do have a fookin great ariel in my loft!
