Got the car in January this year and the 2 rear tyres were healthy. 1 month and 700 odd miles later (no serious driving abuse at all) later and the rear right tyre was slick-like yet the left was still great. Initially suspected one of the hicas arms may have been out so the hicas unit was diconnected.

Now another month or so later the rear left tyre is just as bad but the right is ok

It just seems very odd cos the excessive wearing has swapped sides. If the right went again it could be pinned down to suspension or alignment probs, but thats stayed fine this month??

Also if anyone has any unwanted tyres in a 245 45 16 I would happily buy them off you. Don't want new ones till its sorted.

Have a look at this web site. Expalins about suspension etc. Gives a few places that have the kit to check out the alignment etc.

There might be a place local to you. Still worth a drive to get it checked and adjusted.

Am having mine done today. Will let you know the results.

get the car in for a 4wheel alignment, and get them to tell you the specs, and ajust/replace faulty parts, sounds like hicas arms to me

Had the 4 wheels checked toe camber etc out on all the wheels. Trouble when you lower a car. As the front camber is not adjustable have had to buy new upper arms that are £110 each. Will get these fitted and then have the whole thing set up properly. When you go to have a 4 wheel alignment check they will give you a print out of the data. They basically put the type of car into the machine and it has the setups. These are the results from my SWB with 17" wheels

front toe 2.3mm max 0.5 mm min

rear toe 1.5mm max -0.9mm min

front camber 55' max -35' min

rear camber 25' max -1deg 55' min

hope this helps but I would refer you to the web site I listed above.

This site is run buy the guy who checked mine and will ultimately be re-aligning it.

Cheers for this guys, was going to upgrade to larger wheels from standard and get the wheel alignment done at the same time but just in case there is something a little more serious (and pricey) ill just ditch the new wheels and get this done asap.

Thanks again

Got the car a couple of months ago and the 2 rear tyres were fine

This last week have noticed N/S rear tyre was slick-like and the O/S rear was getting close.

Am taking the car to have all 4 wheels aligned this week, just thought i'd ask if anyone has any other ideas what could be causing it in addition to the above points???

Thanks

Almost certain that it's the tracking or camber. Do you have non-standard wheels or suspension ?

I've email the guy from Darrells post as he does sound like he knows his business :) My car's in Watford at the moment so hopefully will get it to him in a few weeks time :)

HH300ZX, I can let you know what he says if he relies to my mail if you want?

Cheers but Ive sold my car! (I started this thread ages ago but its been ressurected!!)

Is yours one of the ones thats been torturing me round watford? I saw red, blue and black zeds all in one day last week. Didn't see any when I had mine, now they are mocking me

Rear toe-in will be excessive without a doubt! Caused by kerbing the rear wheels at some point - the rear track arms are incredibly weak so bend easily. When I bought mine I didn't spot this and as a result destryoed a set of 265/35 ZR18 toyo proxes within 1200 miles  Expensive mistake to learn from LOL. IIRC the rear toe should be between 0-4mm - when I checked mine it was set at 22mm LOL.

Just about any wheel alignment place should be able to do this for you :)

Here's the specs from the Nissan Service Manual:

Unladen but with full fuel, radiator coolant, engine oil.

Spare tyre, jack, hand tools and mats in position.

Front Axle and Front Suspension:

Camber -1.35' to -0.05' degrees

Caster 9.00' - 10.30' degrees

Toe-in 0 - 2 (0 - 0.08) mm (inch)

Total Toe-in angle 0' - 11' degrees

Kingpin Inclination 12.10' - 13.40'

Front Wheel Turning Angle Inside/Outside 32 - 36 / 27 - 31 degrees

Rear Axle and Rear Suspension:

Camber -1.35' to -0.35' degrees

Toe-in 0 - 4 (0 - 0.16) mm (inch)

Total Toe-in angle 0' - 22' degrees

Hope that helps :)

I had front camber arms fitted in summer and it all aligned locally for a very good price.

Not many places can set up camber, it took me ages to find somewhere with the right equipment.

Thanks for the advice, am taking the car in on Saturday so will note whats been said here and take it with me :)

Where did you get those figures from.

I think if your car was set up to those specs it will handle like shite. + they are way off Factory settings.

Set up on my car is rock solid, very posertive, grips really well in the corners and even pushing around 500 hp or 400RWHP it bites in rather than breaks out. Really the best balanced set up I've had on my car.

Front Toe = 0.0 minutes

Front caster = 9 degrees

Front camber = 2 degrees negative

Rear Toe = 3mm negative

Rear caster = Fixed standard setting

Rear Camber = 3 to 4 degrees negative
