Right I've done some diagnostic tests.

Engine won't boost above about 2-3psi

Autobox came up clean.

I tried the HICAS test about 6 times but couldn`t get it to start.

ECU test came up with the dreaded det sensor.

Priced them up from the local Nissan garage - £202 inc VAT (ouch) is this a normal sort of price?

Also there is a black coloured relay in the boot which they tentatively identified as something to do with the HICAS which is clicking, I`ve not checked the earth yet as I cant find my m/m but could this be why I couldn`t do the HICAS test or is it just coincidence.

Check MJP in the traders section. They supply oem parts at which you should get a much cheaper part than that.

if your cars pretty much standard, you can frig out the det sensor with a 1 meg resistor.

ive been driving mine like that for about a year now on normal unleaded with NO probs

Had a quick look at the det sensor harness today and found what i assume to be the det sensor on the top of the engine.

I pulled back all the black electrical tape to discover only one wire coming out of the connector on the sensor, it looks like when it has been moved the end of the harness lead which is supposed to plug into the sensor has been removed and the wire has been soldered directly onto the pin in the sensor.

However as there is only one wire going into the sensor I would assume that this is probably part of the problem. If the ECU can be frigged into thinking there is a working sensor there by putting a 1Mohm resistor in then my ECU will be seeing an open cct and throwing up the fault indication.

yeh it is the det sensor, not sure what it will do there lol as it wont be measuring much?? tbh you might as well bypass it as its useless now anyway and with regards to the hicas just bin it, get a hicas bar, lock it out, sorted ;)

ok m8 thanks.

So its not worth trying to sort the hicas out then?? Does it not make any real difference?

its your own preference, some people like the way it feels i dont!! to me it feels like the back end is loose when cornering so its why i removed it but if your having problems then yes you might as well go the whole hog and bin it, getgreddy sell the hicas bars

Ok I've performed a temporary bodge it and scarper type repair job on the det sensor harness and the car is running alot smoother now.

However it still wont boost above 2-3 psi so I am preparing myself for the worst. Its booked in to RJM first thing monday so here`s hoping its something simple.

does it smoke? does it over heat? poss a boost leak or an intercooler pipe off etc check all the pipes for leaks as well

Dosen't seem to smoke at idle or under acceleration as far as I can see. The temp gauge stays in the middle, but it wont boost, it does sound like a huge hair drier under acceleration though.

i would check all the pipework make sure its all on and tight.

could also be a wastegate stuck?? all worth checking before you start getting into big rebuild costs as if it was the engine you would be getting other signs ie white or blue smoke?
