Currently have a top end Cobra alarm and am just not happy with it. Looking to replace it with a G5 Clifford. However have no clue with which model to go for and what to spend. These are the features I would like:

Remote locking/unlocking

Remote start

Turbo timer inbuilt

Total closure

Headlamp delay

Proximity warning sensor

Has to be CAT1 certified for insurance purposes

Now I tried interpreting the various models and features but the jargon seems confusing. Want to know which model would be best and how much is one expected to pay. Obviously its pointless getting the top model as some features I will never need to use. Last but not least, any recommendations in suppliers/fitters etc. I am based in Enfield, Middlesex.

Thanks

Toad do good alarms at reasonable prices, i got a clifford concept 600 + intellistart 3yrs ago cost 600 pound fitted, even though it is one of the best alarms with numerous features but cant believe i payed 600 for it.

Thanks James & Nad. Didn't know turbo timer and remote start would void CAT 1 status. So any ideas to come around this ?

2 problems there mate - Turbo timer & remote start would void the Cat 1 status.

J

well ive told my insurance company about remote start & it has never been a problem with them & was told it doesnt void cat 1 status, may be other insures have different policys

Remote start does not invalidate Cat1 status. I have had a couple of meetings over the past couple of weeks regarding this and as Thatcham have never tested a Remote Start System they can`t invalidate a Cat1 with one fitted.

Probably, Turbo Timers are illegal as leaving a car running while you pop off is classed as abandonment and as such if your car was stolen you would not be insured!

I have a Clifford G4 Excellent alarm so the G5 would be even better. IMHO

Only problem I ever experienced with i was in the rain it kept chirping as if one of the doors was open even though they where all closed, but took it to the Clifford specialist as they are lifetime guarnteed and he fitted a bonnet relay or something which he said is on the new G5s problem solved perfect now.

LOL!-better than any alarm mate!-give Bob a shout, sure he will advise you mate! :)

Clifford alarms do not protect your car any better than any other alarm on the market. I can make a Moss alarm just as hard to by pass as a Clifford! What i mean by that is it`s all down to the fitter.

Cat1 alarms must all meet basic requirements set out by Thatcham, they all have 2 circuit immobilisers(some have 3)must protect your doors, boot and bonnet and have internal sensors, be encased in a steel bot secured in the cabin area of the car and have a battery back up siren. There are probably a few more but they are the basics.

Because of the way Clifford alarms are wired i don`t like them because in my eyes they are easier to bypass(not going into detail on a public forum!) Thats why i fit Toad as much as i can. Do there job and never fail !!

Bob

(i have fitted over 100 alarms to members of this forum over the last 6 yrs and am not aware of 1 problem with a Toad)

So Bob, are you able to supply and fit a Toad with the features I'm looking for to my Zed ? Moi in Enfield, Middlesex.

Just a thought mate, but if you have a proximity sensor then you don't need total closure. You can leave the top open just like a convertable and it will be alarmed, no going back to a steaming hot car in the summer.

Correct mate thats what I do.

The new SIGMA S30 Cat 1 is a fantastic system (made by Toad), and due to its small size and its tiny Li Ion battery back up siren make it ideal for the ZX.

Has plenty of extra channels for accessory upgrades aswel, and like clifford it needs to be set up by an engineer on a dedicated Sigma handheld programmer.

Paul.
