I've recently decided to leave the police force, for various reasons really. Anyway, I've been thinking about a career in the RAF and I seem to remember a few of the people here are or have served with them. I'm Just interested to know their opinions on it. What was it like being posted all over the place? What was the training like? any help would be appreciated peeps!

im not in the raf but a friend of mine joined last year and she absolutly loves it. so much to do.plus all the training.

depending on what your interests are ect. best to see a raf career centre.

Funny you mentioned that, I was planning on popping in there tomorrow! I tried to get in the other day but my local one always appears to be closed?!

i served 3 years, best job i ever had,training a dodle,

unfortunately i left on a medical discharge and 1 thing i can say is they have been looking after me ever since.

imo probably the best move anyone could make!

if ya need any more advice feel free to ask away jaylox

what trade you interested in going for

well im not in the RAF, im in the paras but from what ive learnt the RAF takes a lot better care of you than the army! the foods 100 times better, so is the general living standards. as for being posted all round the country, youd get some sort of preference as to where u wanna go, and u soon get used to it. and in a zed, you aint never gonna be that far from anywhere time and speed wise!

Not totally sure about what trade, but I did read about weapon techs nd that side of it. Also saw a bit about non commissioned air crew, gunners etc.

Good point about the Z jacks!

it all depends on what you want to do and get out of it. I was with the Navy for awhile, did`t enjoy it at all transferred to 144 Para (a TA unit) enjoyeed it so much that i;m going regular for the unit now!!!! For me i wanted to physical and mental challenge and there are only a few units that really give a you a run for your money.....good luck

I have been toying for the past few years to go into one of the forces. I will probably wait until I am chartered then join. I make good money for my age atm.

Everyone I know who joined any of the forces loves it. Another guy to speak to is Brett (brakedust300) he's an engineer for the RAF.

Goodluck whatever you do
