HELP !! I can't send emails.

I started having a problems with my email today (outlook explorer ver 6 on xp home). Receiving emails OK. Internet OK. But sending emails gets this message ..................

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'te', Account: 'Andy Stokes - BT Yahoo! email', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I shutdown firewall and antivirus, but still same message. Any ideas.???

Thanks

Have you checked BT's site to see if they have a fault or are maintaining the system?

whats your Pop3 and SMTP servers?

They are both mail.btinternet.com

Still have the same problem.

Any ideas ?

Are you using a router or modem?

If router switch it off for 5 mins, if modem turn off you firewall and try again.

Andy, in Outlook Express under Tools, Accounts, Properties (of the account in question), Servers tick the box that says "My Email Server Requires Authentication" then under Settings ensure that "Use the same settings" is selected. This should sort you out...

BT sometimes change their Authentication requirements on their mail servers without telling their users. It's to avoid SPAM hijacking...
