Auto V Manual Debate (A New Approach)

Ok that old goody is with us again but has any body ever noticed how, despite all the arguments for and against there is never a conclusive answer to the question of which is better Auto or Manual.

So here is what I propose:

Lets have a listing of the good points with Auto and Manual transmission. For every positive comment that type of box will score a point. When this post dries up let the box with the most points be declared the best all round transmission type.

Remember, stick to the good points of your preferred transmission type, no slaging of the other and try not to repeat previously mentioned points by re-wording them as this will corrupt the final score.

This should also make a very interesting read for any undecided potential Z buyer.

I’ll start the ball rolling:

1. No tired left foot when sitting in traffic for half an hour.

2. No chance of a missed gear when racing from the lights.

3. Kick down is far quicker than down shifting when overtaking.

AUTO 3 MANUAL 0

How about this.

Auto 0 - Manual 0

Go drive each one and see what you think if you prefer the manual buy it - If you prefer the Auto by that.

Lets face it most of us own the transmission we go because that is what we wanted - altho Autos seem to be more common on these shores - those that could not get a Manual and wanted one but end up with a Auto instead either :

Learn to love it,

Hate it and look to buy a new one

Hate it but pretend they like it.

Feel inferior and come on here to defend it.

Quiet honestly i couldn't give a shit - I drive a manual as i have never felt comfortable with a Auto when cornering or overtaking is concerned then again i have never driven anything more powerfull that a Astra GTI in Auto Trim so i really can't say one way or the other.

I don't know how all this got started - I do know it pisses a lot of people off and Andy only started the thread again for a laff - Im gonna kill this one Sorry Steve R , dont take it personally but i dont want this to get outta hand as we know things can here. If people want to know the differences they can do a search for the correct technical differences between the models - If they want to know how they drive the only way to tell is drive each one - afterall opinions are like arseholes yardy yardy yardy....

Auto ... Manual - If you like it Drive it / buy it - If you hate it sell it / walk awat - end of story !

Manual:

you can make brummm brummm noises that sound cool

its less smooth and more direct so feels more exiting

you get decent engine braking going into bends

thats 3 to the manual.

Damn, just remembered, I've got an auto LOL
