i havent installed a cd rom or a floppy at the mo as i just wanted to see something on screen before i went futher!!

so all i have is the agp graphics card and the sata in plug sata 1

i also have a freeview pci card in there and there is a red light on that,

my question is there is nothing at all on my moniter!!

it just stays on standby and it does'nt come on when i switch my comp on just stays on stand by, i know the moniter works fine!!

2day was the first time i switched it on i hope ive done everything ok, and yep ive plugged the psu into the mobo both the plugs!!

the PC should boot up with just the motherboard, Chip and memory

are you getting a system test? (bleeping sound)

make sure you are pluging the monitor into the graphics card not the motherboard as most have a onboard one

from what u have brought sounds like a good setup, ANTEC are Excellent PSU's, i have one :)

go back to basics m8, unplug EVERYTHING and start over, this time just plug in the motherboard, Chip and memory and graphics card

if it still dont boot up then there is sumthing wrong with the hardware, prob the motherboard is shot :( pity your not near me otherwise i would sort it for you.

sounds to me like u have done everything right, just re check everything and try again

Hope this helps

thanks mark

yep back to baisics had a look at the memory i was trying to use in dual channel :x:

took one out and worked straight away

my next question is,

well i bought a 64bit 4000+ processor from this fella on ebay,

and on the boot up screen it says amd 3200+

can this be right??

it should have a clock speed of 2.4 ghz

is there a way i can check what chip is in there :smash:

or has this fella done me over :smash: :smash:

thanks

dewi.

right m8, 3 options here:

1) you have been dun over

2) your motherboard may not detect the full speed and may need a bois update

3) check the serial code with AMD

:duffer:

ok will do that matey cheers

i have looked on the clock speed on the bios and it says 2000 where it should say 2400 but i hope it is the motherboard that may need updating as you say

thanks mark.

just looked at the serial code on the chip and yep its a fVcking 3.2,

so he's trying to do me over is he!!

well i have just sent him an email telling him to get it sorted asap and for him to send me the proper chip then i will return the other one

could be just a genuine mistake!!

but could also be trying it on also, lets wait and see shal we!!

glad u checked it out m8

could be a honest mistake but even so still not on

hope u get the right one :)

just got an email from the fella saying he will swap the 3200 for a 3800 dual core whats the best the amd 4000 or the amd 3800 dual core??

will the dual core also fit the fan im using at the moment to cool the 3200 amd socket 939?

dual core is better its a 3800 x2 ;) surprised he is going to give you that there exspensive but you need to make sure that your mobo supports x2 check msi website

  • Author

yeah though so, thanks fellas, i have checked the msi website andthe mobo supports the dual core !

i'll let you know how i get on

thanks again

hi guys,

ok where do i start then

im building a pc at the mo

why bother just go to pc world & get a new one for £500

do you know whats in those Pc's m8?

shit parts, nothing that is any good

crap Ram, crap graphic cards (prob on-board)

sumtimes it is cheaper and better to build your own. i build mine cose i had to have a got spec PC cose i play games competivly on a regular basis.

To them a 2 year old graphic card is the "best" on the market, half the staff ant got the first clue about PC's. Ask them about the new 7900 series cards and you would get a blank look.

PC's they sell are ok for net use and stuff but not cut it if you wanna play games

:)

for the same reason you wouldn't take your car to nissan

try and get the specs you want for half the cash you could build one for,

if you can find your way past the celeron's and the untrained monkeys who

mostly know as much about computers as i do about space travel, :headvswal
