dont know if the speeds are rite mate, but i have heard the auto boxes are stronger and can take more power, i have manual my self. im sure the boffins will help you out lol

autos once your passed 400 ish bhp turn into chocolate ;)

 

manuals or so we thought were bomb proof but its looking like poss 500 ish is its limits before the syncros go.

 

speed wise the manual i think is geared to about 197mph (bhp dependent) and i think the auto is geared for 202mph again you need the power to get there and a hell of long straight road lol

the words "300zx auto box" and "strong" dont go. but i have heard that the auto will go quicker top end but you have to get it there and stop the thing from breaking

What Kirbz said. auto's weak. Manual's strong.

 

However...amount of power through gearbox is'nt the cause of synchro failure, and Supra's, Skyline and Rx7 gearboxes suffer the same problem.

 

Nissan revised the Manual transmission in 94 and 97.

 

Pre 94 Manual transmissions used a softer synro metal.

97 onward transmission used double syncro's for 4th gear (previously only used on 2nd & 3rd)

 

Redline MTL oil often helps alleviate the problem.

so how about an auto to manual conversion, would that be stronger than both?

no only as strong as the manual box.

Nissan still got it wrong with the synchro's even upto 1999 when the R34 GTR box was made with uprated synchro's & gears as standard, the box was fully rebuildable also. Took them long enough to work it out though :headvswal
