Well I decided this year was bodywork time and a couple areas i knew were bad was the dreaded rear arch and a small section of the rear sill.

Thanks to Mike at MJP I already had a replacement arch and rear sill section for 1 side so looks like i now need the other.

Today I helped the bodyshop strip of the wings west skirts and jack the car up to see how bad things were and fook me, it was bad :( not only has the rear sill section gone, so has the inner and floor section and suspension mounting around it! Thing is curled up out of the way in each side is the drain tube which i think either comes from the back of the targas or the rear hatch and for years these have been tucked up inside the inner sill area, making things so much worse  The end result was the bodyshop said i'll do the arch and thats it and another 2 bodyshops the same, so in the end i found a shop that builds rally cars and were happy to take on the job!

Point being fellas, if your running add on skirts, check for the drain tube that should be popping out from either below or behind the rear inner sill area and make sure it's still there, my skirts have been on for around 5 years and am now looking at a hefty wedge of ££ to save her................

Thanks for letting us know about that. there must be loads of Zeds out there with kits fitted and will have the same problem in the future!

Yer welcome mate, was the idea so guys could get under and check now before it's too late. I planned a mega spend this year on the bodywork, just didn't reckon on so much underneath first..

took me and me dad three days to do mine, some of the floor pan was away and both sill were shot, so we made some, only cost me 20 quid (paid for his sunday night beer) :smash:

Funny you should post this Smithy.

My Father and I are just finishing off fully repairing a drivers side rusty sill. My suspicions were that drain pipe was dislodged and dripping water inside the sill. Passenger side drain tube & sill are fine.

Get right underneath to check, just before the sill ends and goes vertical to make the wheelarch. That should be where the drain tube exits.

hmmm ive have just had mine repaired on both sides as the drain pipe was pushed inside the sill..

luckily i have no side skirts (yet they being fitted this year) so i was able to catch this very early on..

One of my drain tubes is blocked, would I be right in assuming that I have to be very careful in trying to unblock it, as I don’t want to dislodge the tube from the neck of the drain?
