Can anyone help with this question ?

My mate has a 1995 Revision 3 mr2 turbo and has a Blitz dual solenoid boost controller fitted which was set up by Thor Racing......

However when accellerating on various occasions it seems like its "holding back" like stuttering, then it picks up fine.......

sometimes its fine from the start.

Thor said it could be the plugs, they said I would need some iridium or something like that, we looked at the plugs today and they are pukka HKS jobbies.... so thats not the reason is it ? ( there are a new set on the way anyway, DENSO IK24's, just to change for a service )....

any ideas guys ?

cheers

Andy...

ahhhhh

he has just fitted a new HKS dump valve.......

interesting, thanks, we'll re-fit the original and see if that helps.....

thanks.

Some dump valves on MR2 Turbos are not ideal, I have an HKS Sequential on mine and haven't had any problems but make sure that the rubber hose is connected to it properly! Mine has come off a couple of times and that can cause all sorts of problems like hesitation and stalling etc.

dump valves should be ok on a rev3 even if they are leakingat the fuelling is done by a map sensor rather than an AFM as per rev2 and rev1's. I had a similar problem on my GT4 which has the rev3 engine, change the rotor arm, dizzy cap and plugs and leads and your problem should probably clear up. If the plugs look ok its probably the dizzycap and rotor, apparently they eat them.

thanks for that, we changed the plugs today, problem still there, so he's ordered a set of uprated leads and a dizzy cap and rotor arm

thanks

Andy.

Watch the uprated HT leads, they can tend to pop off the top of the plugs! ;)

And the dizzy cap and rotor arm, make sure they are in good nick otherwise that will cause the same problems.

Just asked my mate with an MR2 and he said:

Denso, HKS etc have been know to break down on a lightly modded car.

They should run NGK plugs. Best ones for MR2s by far

check/Replace all ignition components. It'll be related to that
