Car insurance, UK v Import

My insurance for an import TT only cost £530 for fully comprehensive.

Well, they didn't ask me whether it was a UK car or an import so in my view, that's their problem. How the hell am I supposed to know that one is more expensive than the other! That's up to them to ask me that don't you think?!!!

How can they justify charging more anyway? There's no difference in performance or in the safety aspect is there? If anything, an import should be safer therefore cheaper because when you buy one, they're restricted to 120mph & also you've got that silly thing that bongs at you to let you know you're over 67mph!!!

Yes.. yes.. tell us all smile.gif

Hi Mike,

Yes, I know Norwich Union know the difference, but they do not load the insurance for having an import if its between the years 91 to 94.

Leigh.

Ahh.. 91-94... Bugger! (he says, owning an 89)

Well they must have changed because I used NU for 2 years and it was listed as group 20 loaded. They didn't have alisting for an import and so the description on the form was a BMW 850 (modified) .....

AFAIK the only company that don't differentiate (maybe they're crap at pure maths - groan) is Tesco.

UK spec or compliant? There are differences.

As I said a while back, imports should have speedo conversion to mph, uk spec window glass all round, uk or EU(if you really wanna start picking holes) tyres, rear fog light rigged up to work or fitted oh and uk spec magic tree air freshner! LMAO biggrin.gif Jap spec magic trees smell of Saki!!! biggrin.gif

One other thing, in the case of the mighty Z car...get that poofy, shirt lifter brigade 112mph limiter off ASAP and remove the stupid chimes that go with it!!! Burn 'em!!! wink.gif

I feel like burning the whole bloody car let alone the limiter!

My car is a 1990 & they've still insured it as if it was a UK car so perhaps a 1989 would be OK too!

biggrin.gif Sorry Shaun mate, didn't mean you specifically! LOL biggrin.gif

I was talking about imports in general!!! wink.gif

I wouldn't think about burning that motor, one thing me and the Duffman can vouch for is that it's bloody rapid!

Must be an advantage having auto(smaller) turbos and no autobox lag with the manual conversion...whhhooooosshhhhhh vrrrrooommmmmm! biggrin.gif
