I have a 1992 Jap Import N/A withe tweed interior, I am replacing the brake discs all round I have measured them and they are 280mm diameter by 25mm thickness. I have had Brembo discs before which I sold to another member who when he received them said that that they wher to big for his 92 N/A and that he needs to buy T/T calipers, after I spoke to supplier he said that all Z32s past late 90s onwards used the same size disc as the T/T??? But the member said that the supplier was wrong and he definatly needed T/T calipers to fit the discs???? This has all been sorted out now buy the member buyng T/T calipers but I dont want to have the same problem with my new discs, so could somebody please clarify the size of the discs on their 92 import with tweed interior series 1. Cheers in advance.

TT front discs are 280 x 30mm

Most NA owners fit TT calipers to solve the hassle. They can be picked up very easily and cheapily. Will make it a lot easier in the future.

They are alloy

How can you tell?? As the disc thickness is only 25mm?? They have also been painted so you cannot go by colour. ;)

Your discs must be 26mm, not 25mm(dont exist)

The "26mm Aluminum" calipers were used ONLY on 1989-1990 non-turbos. They used a 280mm x 26mm rotor.

The "30mm Aluminum" calipers were used on 1989-1990 Twin-turbos and ALL 1991-1992.5 300ZX's (both turbo and non-turbo alike). They used a 280mm x 30mm rotor.

The "30mm Iron" calipers were used on ALL 1992.5 onward 300ZX's (both turbo and non-turbo alike). They also used the 280mm x 30mm rotor.

The lines along the top of the caliper you can see in the picture give it away.

Is this also right for the UK cars? Mines a 1990 and definitely has the iron calipers on it. I doubt that they have ever been swapped either.

Maybe this just applies to the imports

Something is very strange here then because going by the age of my Z and your pictures it would suggest that my calipers are infact 30mm Aluminium even though they have a 26mm disc. I will go and take some more pics and use a tape measure as a guide. Cheers for the help so far guys.

Early UK cars definately had Aluminium calipers too.

After 92 you could only purchase Alloy calipers, so they may have been replaced becuase of warping problems or other damage.

Her are some more pics, the discs that I have on the front are definatly 26mm but the caliper might except a 30mm because there appears to still be a bit of room in between the caliper and disc???????? But I dont know???????? :headvswal :headvswal  I have got to get the right discs.

Perhaps Uk changed to Iron calipers earlier ?

Nope, Iron calipers replaced the lighter aluminium ones becuase of disc warping problems.

Excellent post Legrath - mind if I pinch it for sxoc? Zed calipers are an upgrade for 200s and they're always faffing over what the calipers are made of :D

I thought alloy finned calipers where jap fairlady only orginaly then later on changed to cast iron because of caliper flex on mountings from alloy.

pete what sort of price to zed calipers go for with the sx boys? They after discs as well?

£100-£200 depending on condition of calipers and in they come with pads and discs :)
