if its the same as a power balance test on a conZult then it cuts the spark (and fuel?) to each cylinder in turn, recording the rpm drop on each.

well if 1 cylinder has less rpm drop than all the others then that would be an indication of low compression in that cylinder.

my read out was

no.1 92rpm

no.2 87rpm

no.3 80rpm

no.4 92rpm

no.5 72rpm

no.6 86rpm does this mean i have low compression on cylinder 5

Not nessaraly(?) could be any number of things to make that cylinder down,ie ignition -only a compression test will say it's fubar!

Power balance test done with a ConZult or Nissan Consult is a very BAD way of checking the health of an engine.

Clearly it is a very clever and quick way of isolating an individial cylinder for fault finding and small testing purpose`s but as MantaV8 said other failings such as a poor spark plug, poor injector or connections, low output coilpack etc, etc can result in a low figure on a particualr cyclinder, however used correctly as a fault finding tool it is fine.

One failing of any testing system is how any figures are gained and how they are interpreted, if the tickover is too low when the power balance is done the results will be effected, making sure loads such as air con are switched off etc, engine temperature and much more all need to be factored into the test, many operators do not understand fully what they are testing and as a result the test figures can so easily be corrupted.

But despite all of that I would not too worried unless you have some major running problem.

Would tend to agree to this, too many factors to allow the power test to confirm or not the condition of engine, try doing it on a engine with uprated internals etc,red all the way,if you get my drift, plus when repeating the test in succesion will/can give varying results.
