Just been out and bought myself a new Epson Stylus Photo R220 printer today, for the following reasons.....

I own a Lexmark X1180 All-In-One printer, which is OK'ish but I've not been entirly satisfied with it for a while now. At the week end I replaced the colour cartridge with a medium yeild one (£17.99)...... I managed to produce 10 (TEN) CD labels and 12(TWELVE) photo quality DVD jackets before the colour ran out!!! Which is bloody disgusting in my books. Well someone at work had said that they had the Epson R200 printer and they could get the ink cheap and the quality was really good and the ink lasted a long time.

So today, with just useing the ink that came with it, I've managed to print 20 CD labels and 26 photo quality DVD jackets and I'm not even half way through the ink yet!!!

I'm well impressed with this little printer. Also was at a computer fair yesterday and picked up three full sets of ink (there is 6 cartridges in a set) for only £21.00! Beats the £45.00 per single set of the genuine Epson ones.

blimey thats good , imho off course ive had pcs for at least 6 yrs now and ive had nothing but trouble with epsom they seem to breakdown after yr is up .

but do no what you mean with the hp printers ink doesnt seem to last long at all !! ive owned hp printer for last yr and a half

i used to have loads of problems with epson printers when i used compatible cartridges.

i went to pc world in the intention of NOT buying an epson :headvswal

ended up getting another one the c64 photo edition and never had a problem with it until i used a freebee compatible ...

went back to the genuine durabrite ink and is still working strong to this day

Epson were dire many years ago. But i have had an Epson R300 for 18 months and it rocks. Very good photo prints on glossy paper. A full set of 6 (i think) color cartridges is £20 which is a lot better than rip off HP.

i service epson printers all the time, i reset the internal counter chips to zero and the clean chips all the time for my customers.. takes me 2 mins to do and the printers up and running.

as for compatibles the only ones i use and this is after giving samples to my clients for 3 months are the projet range, they are iso stamped and print upto the max ranges on all epsons.

i have never had one come back, if you guys want inks for epson i can do these cheap.. very cheap.. i am now doing the new dx range of inks for the brand new epsons.

the point whre you get the message on screen about "the parts inside this printer have reached the end of thier service life please contact an epson technician" is b0ll0x, all it means are the count chips have reached the limit and the ink catch pad needs to be changed.. like i said takes two mins to fix..

take pad out.. change, reset chips inside printer and on your way!

I have an Epson RX620 Printer and get my ink from these people cheapest I have found: http://www.bigink.co.uk

what you have to remember guys is that the chip in the cartridges tell the printer if it is a genuine epson printer cartridges or not, and if you put in a non epson cartridges they get very funny. plus they also have a timer on the chip which tells the printer not to do so many prints. it's a way of f***ing us over

buy a chip resetter and you can get more life out of them ...acording to my black cartridge it was empty 2 months ago but i reset it and still works fine at the moment. i recon epson set there cartridges to read empty at 75%

timer??? what are you on about???? theres no such thing.. in the printer are two eprom based counters these count head cleans and cartridge use.. thats it.. these are there for two purposes both leading to the same thing.

to tell the user the ink catch pad is full, as after a fixed amount of head cleans, usually 60 the ink pad is saturated, also after so many ink changes it knows how many head cleans it has done as it cleans the heads and charges the ink when you insert a new one. thats it.. i get my service tools from epson uk, i have a once a year exam with epson uk to be certified to field repair their products and refurbish them..

using compatibles is fine, yes the printer knows that its not an epson cartridge as it doesnt have the correct id code on the cartridge chip, they cannot use the same cartridge header code as that infrindges on epsons technical copyright. when it comes to compatibles its a hit or miss affair thats why i only use and supply genuine ISO certified and stamped compatibles.

i used to design risc processor chips and eproms for a certain company a while back, the beauty of them is that with the right tool you can wipe the eproms clean and put whatever you want in there, thats how you can reset and clear the epson counters in the printers.

cheap!!!! you gotta be fookin joking!!!!!

they are no where near what i charge... fookin no-where!!!!!

i wouldnt pay that much for any ink cartridge!

iv always used epson & found them very good if you run a cleaning cartridge through them every now & again.

was thinking of getting the R220 myself.

pk1 - what price can you get these for & how much can you supply cartridge sets for??

R220 cartridges. i can do a full set of 6 for £8 or two sets for £14 exc p&p which will be about a quid i think

pk1, that sounds very good indeed :) once I've run out of this lot I've just bourght, I'll give you a shout, if that's OK? :D But judging by the small amount I've already used it may be a while yet ;)

....was thinking of getting the R220 myself....

Well I'd certainly recommend it, the print quality is excellent, and I'm not even using the top setting for my photo paper. And the printer itself isn't all that obtrusive either, nice and compact.

I got me a R300 which uses the same cartridge system too. If you crank the quality up to full and put glossy paper in with a hi res picture the quality (full A4 sheet) is outstanding, albeit a 15 - 20 minute wait per page of printing. The Epson R-series printers are the dog's danglies IMHO! Also for 'normal printing' it uses next to no ink ... result

Just checked that svp website for some ink and there out of stock so much for my recomendation lol oh well when thay do have it its cheap
