Im trying to sell the plate that was on my zed when i got it. SAZ 2484 (offer lol), and its been suggested to stick it on ebay. Ive checked the DVLA website but they dont offer any advise as to how to swap / sell plates on your own?

I have heard it might mean me sending my v5 off to a random person, or having them send theres to me? Surely there must another way round sending logbooks to random people.?

All advice welcome, also i would like to get back the previous plate that was on the car so im assuming this is fairly easy to do once the transfer has been sent to the dvla.. (presumably £80 transfer fee..?)

Thanks all

You need to go to your local DVLA and have the number put on retention. This removes it from your vehicle and the DVLA provides a certificate bearing the registration number which I thinks last for 12 months. The fee you pay for this includes the fee for transfering it to another vehicle so make sure you include that amount to be added to the final price it makes on Ebay. So, all the winner gets is a DVLA certificate bearing the reg number and is known as 'on retention'.

tried regtransfers but they have had the plate for 2 months and no interest. PLate on retention sounds the way to go. As for local dvla where would i find them? thought they were all up at swansea? Can i get a form from the post office and sort it out that way?

Geekey, you need to get a V778/1 application to put a registration on retention cert, this will cost you £105 with dvla £25 for the retention, which lasts a year, and £80 transfer fee.

You will also once you have the retention document, and wish to transfer the plate to another owner have a nominee put on the form (so that they can apply it to their car) this will cost you a further £25. So your looking at £130 to get it ready for sale.

Your better off doing this first as it will fetch a better price on ebay if its all ready to go, then simply put the P&p costs at £25 to cover the nominee fee.

Your car is normally re assingned its previous plate, but dvla cannot assure this and sometime the car is given a new plate appropriate to its year.

thanks for the info.. so £130 all in to get this plate on retention and then ebay to sell. This will include the issue of a new plate for my car? I think i might leave it with reg transfers for a month or 2 as cash is a bit tight after buying my xbox360 lol

Regtransferes wont shift it had my taz plate on it for 2 years.

When you put the reg on retention your car automatically gets another reg assigned.

Hope this has helped you.

yep, put a £200 reserve on it and a long auction 7 to 10 days, worked well for me and if it doesnt sell it doesnt cost you alot.
