I have a coolermater stacker PC case that has big 120mm fans in that run at a low rpm. Not too noisy but still not quiet either. But its great cos its er.. big!

i got a coolermaster stack with the cross flow fan, exhaust fan, and 11 Vantec hard disk drive coolers and it's not too noisy and you get usted to it

err well thats certainly... different... wonder if it really does work. after using your pc for a few hours you could pop some fries in there as well :D

This is my solution to cooling quietly

a abit an7 mobo which reduces the fan spin rate based on how hot the server is,

a zalman north bridge heatsink to replace the north bridge fan

a zalman large fan and span heat sink (run a larger fan at lower RPM)

I also have an antec case with a psu that turns down the case fan and its internal fan based on case tempreture. I also have sound deadening inside the case which knocks out a few db but more importantly more annoying frequencies.

I would like to get a fanless PSU for the next stage, and maybe water cooling that doesnt use a noisy pump :)

I noticed that the PSU and Hard drive aren't in the oil  what a poo idea :slap:

psu and hdd can go in the oil too, so long as the hdd is a sealed unit anyway. Obviously shoving 240VAC into the oil makes things much more dangerous.

And mike, if you want a quiet water pump then use an eheim, my 1048 is completely inaudible, unless of course you shove your ear right up to it.

Despite what a lot of people think a hard disk is not an air tight unit. They have a small hole with some type of filter. Not sure how the cooking oil case dudes got around that or if they did lol.
