right my question is how do I connect a power cap up?

according to the instructions - terminal to ground

+ terminal straight to battery and to the amp

but this means the power cap is on all the time meaning flat battery

where as the remote wire switches amp on/off so this doesnt drain battery

cheers guys

The cap is on all the time but only supplies power to the amp when it needs it. It`s like another battery sitting there but only gets used when you turn the amp up and get a voltage drop, the cap then supplies any extra power reqd.

Hello

I saw this thread and asked my partners advice as he instals audio equipment, his reply was " use a 5watt sidelight bulb connect the earth from the battery to the cap and wire the 5w bulb in series between the positive battery terminal and the positive terminal on the cap, once the bulb goes out, your cap is fully charged, doing this without the bulb or resistor will damage your cap"

Hope this helps as i have no idea what that meant

Thanks

I use to run a cap in my old car and to be honest if your wiring is spot on you wont need a cap unless your running atleast 3 amps, if your power and earth connections arnt great though a cap can be useful to prevent things like your lights dimming when a bass beet hits. My cap just charged itself up and then it turns itself off 10mins after you turn the ignition off. No remote lead was needed. I used a distribution block and had 2 amps and the cap in 1 end (all 4 gauge cable) and the main power in the other end (again 4 gauge). Never had any problems. If your battery was drained check your earth connections again.

could you not use a relay with a remote wire from your stereo/ignition so it's only charging then?
