1. anything from £2500 - £7500

2. http://www.300zx.co.uk/tech/BuyingZ.htm

3. Auto's are weak if the power of the engine is high or it hasnt ever had a larger aftermarket oil cooler fitted, Manuals are pretty strong.

4. Keep an eye open in the for sale section of this ere board

and welcome

hi mate,welcome!!

1: dunno really depends on the spec of the car, milage ect, very roughly £4000- £5000

2:uk spec are more prone to rust i believe and tend to be higher milage.check the usual stuff like no smoke from the exhaust, nice and quiet on start up,check its boosting properly ect. loadsa stuff comes up with a search ;)

3:i wouldnt say the gearboxes are crap, some of the autos have problems, the manuals tend to be stronger

4:look in the 4sale section of this forum.i may be selling my twin turbo soon but its a jap spec not uk. (i'm 21 as well with a drink drive conviction 6 months ago!! insurance isnt as bad as you think with these cars!) :D

Cheers for replys and yep im from telford

im liking the sound of the price range :D

Lubas what insurance company you use id deff have an import if the insurance isnt that much higher.

Be wary of UK spec cars as far as corrossion to the rear of the sills the rear wheel arches and the floor pan and all the bits connected to it.

Have seen some shocking examples which look more like 25 years old underneath where an imported car can look new in comparison and be older!

Saying that seen some imports in mechanical shocking state so be very careful whatever spec you choose, oh and DO NOT BUY FROM ANY DEALERS IN BIRMINGHAM!!!

Jeff TT

i went through a broker called swanley and north kent, they apparently give me a discount though because i went on a DR course.

dont worry i stay clear of dealers full stop nothing but trouble

id prefer to buy one from someone on here with a good rep. i may be tempted to get a import now.

Welcome Mike, import is probably your best option. . If i was buying again, I wouldn't touch ebay, autotrader or dealers, i'd just sit here and wait ;)

Try 'Houghtons' for insurance mate, 01582 867763.

Think you have to be over 25 for them to cover you.

They will do a good deal on the z as a classic, bearing in

mind that you need a daily driver insured with them too.

EG: I'm 36, had my z as a classic with an astra 1.6 as

my daily hack, z limited to 5k per annum... £609 for the

pair fully comp.

if you look in the for sale section there is a SWB n/a for sale looks nice cheaper ins as no tubs its up for £3k but open to decent offers

A Zed without turbos?

No NO no

Churchill do me a good deal. For 'Classic car' deal, the Z wouls have to be a second car.

What do you mean... a zed without turbos... is a no no........

they are far more realiable... and yes i agree that the turbos are quicker.. but price for speed.. and price for the hassle of fixing everything every 5 min.... (sorry about my rant..) but if you buy a turbo.. good on you.. if not... good on you.. a zed is a zed..... and as for me personally i wont buy a turbo because of the amount of problems most have had....

and a AUTO.... thats a no no... lol.

What d'you mean trouble?

Nar. Had my TT since Sept 2000 and all fine except for starting problem

that was poor contact in crank angle sensor (shown in self diagnosis).

Always starts at first spin.

Totally reliable, I'd say.

No real heart to the machine without turbos.

welcome bud

"Most" definatly do not have problems, and almost all failures are not related to the car being Turbocharged, but like every forum..all you ever hear about is the problems and people get the wrong idea.

But NA or TT they are both great cars.

p.s Go for a Manual gearbox..very strong. ;)

Fair enough, better a Zed without turbos than no Zed at all.

TT still better and worth the slight extra cost.

Anyone who says 'manual' is correct.

North Yorkshire, near Hull??

East Yorkshire

Brandesburton, moi.

 well i have a turbo but my next one will be n/a due to the fact there aint any autobahns in GB

Really you get what you pay for. I saw a black 91 TT UK manual go for £10K just before Christmas. It was unmolested, Gen 30k mileage, original and in good condition.

My 94 UK has got dents underneath from being grounded and two small rusty bits at the bottom of the sill inside the wheel arch, but will be replaced this spring. I wouldn't have expected to get £10K for her though and I've spent near £30K on her.

simmo..

manual is the only way to go...... there are more than enough horror stories with auto boxes than with turbos...

and sorry about the above words.. with turbos..... i guess its if you are planning on driving the car like a boy racer all day everyday...... na's are better for this than TT but its only because there is more to go wrong ..... lol

go for manual.

and just have fun.
