Following on from the thread about 555cc Nismo's ( I am not saying they are fake though ;) ) thought i'd post up a couple of pics showing just how clever some companies are copying Jap performance goods, Would you have spotted the difference if the pic didn't tell you ???

This is why i NEVER purchase goods from Ebay companies who are not Authorised distributors of those goods.

This is the difference where it really matters

I'll leave this running for a little while then show you how this was first noticed or if anyone knows how to spot the fake, do say ;)

the writing printed on the fake seems to be less clear then the original unless its the photo which has caused this.

i hate it when you buy something and its doesn't do what ist says on the tin

Been meaning to post that for ages, shocking what can be copied nowerdays :( check all your fag packets as some of the fakes out there can kill (100 times more than a normal fag)

Think that's the photo mate, however even if that was the way how to spot fakes, unless you bought a genuine one and a fake one, how would yer as a normal punter, know

doh i was gonna leave it for a while longer to let the guys see just how impossible it is to spot fakes.

Heres the other obvious thing, however in the case of Chris's pic and mine, unless you know these goods inside out and buy sell em all the time, you the average punter, would never know

The most alarming thing is that many of the goods being copied like induction kits, boost controllers, injectors etc, buy a fake and you can possibly kiss your engine goodbye

Thats what i thought , the display looks odd on the bottom one ???

Why would they go to all the trouble of copying the casing, components, pcb etc then get the size of the box wrong lol??

the imitation one has grey digits when switched off while the genuine is dark red. also the imitation shows the wrong A/F reading. and honestly ive not just read the link :D

The 2 general points being is though chaps, unless you had another one at the same time to compare, you'd never know the difference and whilst you might spot what looks like a bargain saving you some of the ole wonga, buy from a reptuable dealer is the really the only safe thing to do ;)

Smithy do you know how to tell the difference between a fake and genuine Apexi Induction Kit.

"A'PEXi is concerned about the potential damage that the counterfeit Turbo Timers may cause. Poor circuit design, incomplete programming, use of inferior materials, and inconsistent manufacturing processes could lead to car malfunction, short circuits, electrical fires, electrocution, and possible physical injury and are not recommended for use"

To be honest it looks like they have copyed the exact same board and components from apexi. 166d7905.jpg if that’s the case how can it be Poor circuit design?

Just sounds like (and rightly so) Apexi are just pissed off someone is taking their share of the market with identical goods they have designed. Not that the goods are bad (because for all accounts the product is the same as the original in every way) just copies.

Not condoning the copies in any way. But if I made the same setup myself copying Apexi's design it would but no less effective nor would it be any more dangerous than the original. Why would these copies be?

The copies to me look like savings for things that cost £4 or £5 to make and sell for £200+. Admittedly that’s not taking into account the design and development costs.

All MHO of course and remember kids, buy from registered traders! COPYS ARE NOT COOL! :D

The gauze on the original Apexi filters is much finer than on the imitation.

Sinoda who make Filters for Apexi and K&N also make there own. They are very good and often passed off as Apexi by stenselling the Apexi logo on them. Apart from it saying Sinoda they look the same and you can only tell the difference when side by side, as the Apexi gauze is much finer.

Sinoda filters cost about £35 fot the Z, but an Apexi costs about £80 so you understand why they bother.

Why does it say for NA and Turbo on both boxes???

Who the feck would fit a TURBO TIMER to an NA car?????

Because they monitor A/F ratios Voltages and cooling an NA down aint such a bad thing.
