my engine looked ok but was a bit grimey, a mate suggested spraying a tin of wd40 on it, so i did, and now its a LOT better, in fact i reckon with a toothbrush and a scrub it'd come up very well to give me a good start before the shiney bits arrive..

all the best..

p.s. i always used solvol autosol in the past on the bikes..

parafin works wonders on the grime, then a clean and spray wax

Get It Chromed

what exactly is involved in getting it chromed, and whats the cost? i can imagine its not cheap.

Would also be very interested to hear about the costs for chroming various engine parts.... As today started polishing the Plenum...And have partially lost the feeling in my hands :D

The whole engine? Yes that will cost the earth or thereabouts. Just the plenum will also cost you a pretty penny, if you want the mirror finish you'll have to polish it flat first. Tbh I reckon a better look is the satin black look like Russ hade done to his.

dont spray the bloody engine with wd-40 ffs it will smoke and stink LOL best thing on metal is to start with carb cleaner dont spray on plastics as it will fook them up,then clean with small stiff nylon brush and hot soapy water wire brush any shit of the plenum, clean some of them corroded plugs whilst your at it with elecy cleaner spray

p.s. if you DO spray it with wd40 best wipe the majority of it off before starting the engine ;) i usually use hot soapy water and a toothbrush and just take it steady cleaning it off, works for me anyway...

(i shudda added that earlier, sorry, altho personally i quite like the smell, does that make me odd... lol....)

no it does smell nice just not on a hot burning plenum

yeah point taken greg, worked a treat for me, altho my cars not been started for a while and i knew it could be left to "soak".... seems to have made a big improvement to it tho thats for sure, altho ur ways probably more conventional.. lol..
