Anyone with a manual conversion (done)

Did any of you who have had a manual conversion have any problems with the insurance or did they charge you extra??

Not sure I ever got around to telling them. When I re-insured I just told the new company it was a manual car. If you inform them you've made the change then they would probably require and independent engineers report.

They have just asked me to get the garage to send them a fax advising its just a standard gearbox that would be fitted in a 300ZX TT from the same year as mine.

I havent managed to get in touch with Mark yet but hopefully he'll be ok to do this for me

My insurers - Admiral - told me that it would raise the group from 20 to 39 !! And of course the premium accordingly.

I argued that there was no such insurance group but they said for modifications there was - told them to get stuffed and would insure it with a company that had experience of this kind of thing. So they said....."On this occassion we'll keep it the same.....blah blah"

I will be insuring it elsewhere when it's back on the road.

Good luck.

Mark

Oh by the way it's a HUGE improvement over the auto - except when stuck in traffic :-)

Nice one,

The insurance company can unfortunately rate cars anyway they want,

for example direct line may insure cars and group them between 44 - 88 so that they have a more presise (still cant spell) rating for their pricing.

Even companies who do rate cars the more common way (1 - 20) can basically change the ratings of a specify car so an example would be if one company rate a ford fiesta as a group 4 another company may rate the same fiesta as a group 6, basically its all up to the underwriters.

I only learnt of that crap cos i work for an insurance company
