*edit, Doh, didnt see the under £20 bit

  you ever tried contacting them ?????? be prepared for a few hours on hold and I am not joking, binned them and went to wanadoo. ;)

I use Pipex, perhaps not the absolute cheapest, but one of the most reputable commerical providors that offer excellent retail services.

actually forgot to mention that, your right dude, if you do have technical issue then be perpared for long wait before you get transfered to a call centre in a different part of world.

I ditched NTL years ago, becuase of their complete lack of understanding of the term "customer service". Only available in NTL cable areas too ofcourse.

I also ditched NTL a few years ago, Service was ok but when i had problems they were quite possibly the worst company ive ever dealt with for customer service. Hours on the phone, diverted to various parts of the country and left on hold for an eternity !! IMO :headvswal

I did work it out and I think I spent about 12 hours on hold over different times due to giving up when I wanted to ditch them, a month after I managed to cancel I was still getting bills from them, more time on hold and I gave up, ended up with more bills which finally came to £150 and a collection agency at my door, no way to proove I had cancelled and was given no choice but to pay up after advice from the CAB I could prove the amount of time on hold but not the content of the conversation, cant tell you how much I hate this company.

When my 12 month contract is up NTL will NOT be receiving any more of my custom! The phone service is okish, the television servise is a waste of time and the broadband sucks! I have got 2MB, which normally sits at about 1.5MB, so i am paying 25% more than what i am getting. On top of that they have generously allowed 256k upload, what use is that to anyone? Oh and if you want to speak to them, expect a loooooooong holding time and then to speak to an indian person with little or no understanding of english. (NOT being racist here, just stating the problem with the language gap, it would be the same if indian companies used british call centres....can anyone here speak Urdu or Punjabi? Not you rebel )

Are there any broadband companies which supply broadband with an upload worth having? I would like to see something like this:

You have 10MB to play with and you can assign what proportion to use for up/down, i would be more than happy to have 6 down and 4 up, this would be perfect, but 256k just isn't of use.

Going to look into pipex, as i don't mind paying a bit more for a quality service. As with everything, you get what you pay for :)

I don't think I'll mention who I work for!! :o

If you do then be ashamed, then tell me some way I can get back at them, Im not bitter and twisted about it really :mac1:

I am mate!! :o I'm currently looking else where.

As well as working for them, I also used to be a customer, so know exactly where you are coming from about customer service!!!

No real way to get back at them short of leaving, which you've already done!

thats just not enough, they owe me £150  could have sold their old modem but I found it much more fun smashing it to pieces with a hammer.

Don't go with NTL, there a fooking joke! Still billing me at my old address even though I moved in March!!!!!!!! Have spoke to them every couple of weeks since moving and have given up now. I'm with Eclipse who are very good and I get free evening and weekend calls

Be careful mate, unless you can prove you cancelled the collection men will call for you like they did me.

I have 2mb with tiscali .. no problems at all ... and I have used the support line as BT fooked up the line when installing a bus line and they were good ...

well good for indian call centre :-)

Hi Mate,

Me and a few work colleagues are all on Plus.net (http://plus.net/) - they do a £14.99 p/month option I believe - worth checking out I guess.

Also, you can get a lot of good advise from here: http://adslguide.org/

Hope this helps

Simon.

Odd that people are recommending Pipex and Plusnet as I've heard bad things about both, especially Plusnet. Definitely check out adslguide though.

The first thing I'd do is find out whether your exchange has been unbundled, or LLU'd. Have a look at http://www.samknows.com and see if any LLU companies are in your exchange.

If Easynet are at your exchange, you should be able to get a significantly cheaper service than you would get if you use an ISP that supply the service over a BT connection.
