Right, first off all this is a BT Voyager 105 connecting with AOL, so please no remarks about AOL being crap, or even the Voyager, as that wont help me, thank you.

Right, when I built the PC for Karen I used my Windows XP discs with service pack 2, and basically all the same components as my pc is running. Well Karen was on AOL Dial-Up, but has decided to go for Broadband, no problems I think, as that is my set-up.

So I come to install the modem, using the installation CD supplied, just the same way as I have with my own. Everything installed as it should have done, but this is where tha problem arose.....

The modem is receiving power, and the PC is recognising it, but it's coming back with 'No Signal', so I assume that there is a problem with the BT line. To cut a long story short, there has been two BT engineers out so far, and they have both said that there is nothing wrong with the line.

Tonight I have brought Karens PC home with me and installed it onto my BT line, with her modem, still the same, so I installed my modem, being an earlier version (along with my drivers for it), and still no joy!!! I've checked all the settings that I could think of/ find and they are the same as on my PC!

WTF could be wrong?

I'm running,

Celeron 2.6, 768 Ram

Karens running,

Pentium 1.0, 256 ram

Can't see any problems with that lot, oh and YES i did dissable the firewall, just in case.

TIA

Nope, BT engineer check all that, and he check the incoming signal with his own laptop, using the modem, no problems.

I take it you can see the modem in device manager? Is there anything in the system log or application log in event viewer?

If all else fails I have an unused BT modem (USB) that you can test with if you wanna pay postage?

Yes, PC is recognising the modem, no problem there. Also I've got a BT Voyager 100 which works perfectley on my PC, which is the one that I tried it against.

I had a similar issue with a wireless router but that was due to the protocol, running PPPoE rather than PPPoA.

Have you tried Karens modem in your working setup?

I've not tried Karens modem on mine, but my 100 works fine on my PC, but still doesn't work on hers, if you see where I'm coming from.

Worth trying her modem on yours. If it works you can rule out any possible hardware issue and focus on settings \ drivers...

Dave

I have been with AOL for nearly 3 years on broadband, they recently upgraded me to a faster speed for the same money but it took 1 month to get me reconnected as they kicked me out accidentally.

What I got was when i double clicked the modem green arrows, checked status i got no signal, the arrows stayed dark green, and no data was transferring. Firstly I got a new modem kit with filters etc, I installed AOL/modem drivers again etc still not working.

I then put all the AOL/Modem drivers on my laptop from work and at my main phone socket downstairs....was exactly the same....so again i phoned their helpdesk.....one word of advice about the helpdesk.....if you have carried out all the basic checks and also reinstalled the software, ask for level 2 help and they should get your problem sorted.

Eventually after 1 month of phoning and getting nowhere the fault was fixed as it was a bt line fault after all the messing about.AOL had the line checked as well by BT and it was given all clear.

If I can help give me a shout in pm etc as I am an expert in AOL Broadband. :headvswal

Cheers John Crisp

Don't believe everything BT tell you, I've had a right pile of hassle with my BT Voyager 220V ADSL Voice Router or should I say I've had a right pile of hassle with BT - full stop - :headvswal

By Broadband Voice connection worked for about a week, then when I got my new PC and rebooted the router it won't let me log back in, have phoned BT on several occasions but they just fob me off! Saying we'll get back to you in a few days FFS. T0ssers!!! FACT!!!

Right, I've tried the 105 (karens) modem on my PC, no problems. I've tried some possibles that were on the web site that Steevo put up but no joy. And I've even downloaded the modem drivers direct from BT's web site and still no joy.

Incidentley, the engineer from BT checked the (karens) line, extensions and everything else (including the 105 modem) with his own lap top, and everything worked fine for him.

This is really pissing me off big time, but at least looking at the web site that Steevo put up, it looks like I'm not the only one having these problems.

Dave is the pc connected to the phone line via the main socket into the house and not an extension wire.

I was told by AOL that I needed to check the line with the pc connected to the main phone socket, at first I didnt but then after I installed all the relevant AOL software and drivers for modem on a laptop (or 2nd pc) and it still didnt work I knew it was deffo a line fault even though AOL had went via BT and allegedly gave the line the thumbs up...even though as I posted earlier it was BT at fault.

Hi John,

It isn't at the mo, but it has been checked both on the main and extension, no difference. Mine I'm on now is always on a secondery socket + an extension with no problems.
