Gareth,

RE: your request for rear wheel nuts, please do not take it lightly that two are just " missing" there is evidence that wheel stud failure is increasing especially on the UK spec cars, an early indicator is wheel nuts coming off or going "missing" as the stud stretches, I would urge you to have the wheel studs inspected and to be honest just replace them, they are not dear and the alternative if not worth it.

I personally have seen at least 10 x UK spec zeds loose wheel nuts without any apparent reason, even if the nuts are replaced there is still the potential for repeat failure.

Nissan have recognised this fact or at least their parts network has as it is becoming so common for them to sell replacements wheel studs now, it has been said the UK spec cars suffered it more due to the wider wheels and offset on the rear wheels, however many import cars have after market wheels and do not seem to have had the same failure rate.

Not want to be too alarmist but to anyone with a UK car if wheel nuts go missing and especially the rear ones have the wheel studs checked at the very least.

WHEEL NUT POST

Featured Replies

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for that (I think!). Is there any simple way of confirming if the wheel studs are stretched? Also, do you know if they are a fairly simple job to replace?

I'll have to get onto the dealer in Chester and price up replacements - should I replace all of the studs on the rear (10) or just the ones that have lost nuts?

Thanks for the warning Jeff.

Gareth

Replace them all. Its an easy job, you just smack out the old ones and whack in the new. Garrage will only charge £30 ish to do it, its not a long process.

But I could be wrong, it has been known ;)
