warning lights on the dashboard

whilst driving this morning the following lights came on:-

 

battery light

diff oil light

one on the lower bottom left warning panel, it looks like a lamp or cone with with several horizontal lines on the right of it (not sure what this it, cat overheat?)

 

tried starting it just now at lunchtime and the same lights are on. does this mean a shot battery or alternator or worse? :confused: :( I don't have my manual to hand so can't check.

 

its a 93 series 2 UK car BTW
