Ok having a debate with my mate at the moment. Recons his totaly standard M3 will out handle the Zed. I've blasted one in a strait line before but never met one on the twisty stuff(He's just Pi55ed cause I hosed him up Glenshee in my Integrale) Anyone had a handling duel with an M3 ?????

Man I can't wait to get my car back together again.. O and the best one is his wifes a psychologist "She can't understand why I'm putting so much effort and money into a 14 year old car" Just goes to prove it doesn't matter how long you spend at Uni SOME PEOPLE WILL JUST NEVER GET IT !!! :headvswal :headvswal

thats a very interesting question, i'd love to have a go at one with my suspension setup, anyone got an M3? :D

unless you got a proper tein set up or mega wide rubber he will beat you ,not buy much so i would advise some straight bits in it aswell

My boss has an M5 5ltr thing .. I'm well impressed with the handling of that for a big car .. but never driven it in anger on a real road

At Bruntingthorpe there was a well set-up M3 and i had no chance on keeping up with him through the twisties, I only have Eibach springs and Adjustable tension rods, but a stiffer chassis (SWB Slicktop ) but i absolutely killed him on the straights!!

Soooooooo, In conclusion, I'm afraid your mate would do you, if you were as goood as each other at controling a car that is! :D

Done one on a straight piece of road once but I agree with most people here that on corners, they'd have the advantage, if only because everything would be tighter suspension wise.

Thanks for the info Chunk. Mates cars totally standard mind "wife and pram german suspention settings" if not I'll just use the scare tactics on him then.. You'll know that old bike trick .. Climb all over him everywhere till he lets you past.. Man I love driving ..

Both cars run a similar weight and similar suspension setup in stock form.

Which one has the best tyres and least worn suspension is what will make the difference...and more importantly, the driver.

Naturally you will be performaning any future comparison tests on a private race track ;)

Yep Blairgowrie to Bremar via Glanshee test track very well proven testing ground in the summer months of course and never on a sunday "kinda like a scottish ver of the Nuremberg Ring with metro's, tractors and the odd sheep"

P.s I never would condone being caught racing on the public highway!! So get yer mate on a sports bike with a mobile to run up the road first.

What you could do is before you set off and race him, get someone to let the air out of his tyres

You'l beat him no problem at all (possibly in first gear all the way)

Whats wrong with that !!! .. Hit a sheep in an 911 turbo a LITTLE!! over the speed limit on that road .. Bloody hell that slowed me down!! Well at least till the carcase came out from under the floor pan anyway.. Tell ya what I wasn't popular that week in the garage...

reminds me of coming back from the ross on wye meet and having that m3 try and keep up with me once i passed him!!

ok I'm 35 years old, Driving for 18 years first car was a Lancia Fulvia 1.3 V4 "Man you could rev the T*Ts out of that" Then a Strada Abarth

Aye Chunk looks like there all scared to admit there 22 been driving for 3 weeks and there first car was there mums fiesta 950...:)

M3 vs 300ZX - depends how old his car is. WOrn shocksand bushes make so much difference. Most 15 year old cars handle like shopping trolleys unless these bits have been replaced.

Fortunately i can speak 1st hand, a friend of mind has an M3 Evolution with a couple of bits and bobs on it but nothing to the suspension. Straight line he had no chance with the Z, when we got to the corners there wasnt that much in it! Yes my Z was a bit more 'Tail Happy' but with my Tein setup it made things pretty even through the bends!!!

Still thrashed him coz of straight bits

:tongue::tongue::tongue:

how can so many people reply when they have no idea whether its an e30, e36 etc etc model?

think most people will naturally compare it to the newest (e46?)

If it is a newer e46, then I reckon your mate will have you on the twisties and pretty close on the straights. Been in a well driven one and was well impressed.

Craig, have also done quite a few runs on the Blairgowrie to Braemar road(not in the zed though), absolutely fantastic roads but as you said have to be careful and avoid the sheep!!!

ronnie

The one i raced which my mate has in an E36 - as i said quite good on the bends but not as quick on the straights
