 I just went to log on and check how my bike was doing. It was up to £1500. and had one day left to run out of seven. NOTHING! no advert i had a message from Ebay saying it had been removed because I was spamming???

Because I put "not honda, kawasaki or yamaha" in the subtitle? I thought everyone did that? But i have no idea who was bidding and watching so had to re-list.

In future i might use this alternative. Anyone used it before?

E BID...........

Yeah they take the piss, it should be all or nothing, not some people get picked out!

But that is spamming.

Say you were looking for a 300ZX on eBay, and you got 500 hits for shopping trolleys advertised as "not 300ZX". It is mostly very annoying.

Checked out Ebid, registered and then decided against it. Too much hassle and probably no cheaper to use initially.

Mate, on the one hand I'm gutted for you, on the other I'm not (sorry). When I spent 6 months looking for my zed I got quite fed up of the "not 300zx" crowd on eBay. What I would say in your defense is that they should make it a heck of a lot clearer that this isn't on than they do. As you point out, a lot of people do it, and unless they clamp down on them then people *are* going to think it's OK.

Putting on my IT hat for a second: how hard would it be for the techies at eBay to come up with a script that just searched for the word "not" in titles and descriptions, flagged a warning to the seller before posting the advert, which would give them the option to change it. If they chose not to change it then it could be added to a list of items that needed reviewing before being allowed to auction, and then it would either (i) not be listed in the first place, or (ii) allowed to list. They just don't take this stuff seriously, or they've got a bunch of muppets for programmers (sorry, bad day at work dealing with buggy Microsoft crud, so I'm not in the mood to be nice about incompetent techies).

Anyway, like I said: both gutted and not. Are they going to charge you the listing fees for it?

PI55 OFF!

??

I aint bothered by the reason. Its the way they did it? Left it until the last day? Thats questionable?

and

the reason they dont want it aint to protect the customers from spam. What about all those 20bhp power chips ad after ad after ad? Its because they charge you to advertise on other sections and that eliminates that process. Greedy B'stards.

Very true, not to mention people using photos that look suspiciously like real Momo Millennium Evolution steering wheels to advertise something that's clearly a copy/replica (although the guy did give me a refund so I'm not going to complain too loudly about that).

NO mate they have refunded my fees. So they fookin should? Its just that with 19 bids and my target price reached it is gutting. Hopefully it might get the following back but they might think I'm dodgey now? It just dosent look good when an item is removed without notice.

i know just how you feel vinniboy.................

i was lets say a bit cheesed off. what did annoy me was the fact that right below my advert was a guy with the exact same wording............and guess what, nowt happened to him.

also, someone has to report you to get that advert removed, another reason i was annoyed.

anyway, i now know you shouldnt do it (even if everyone else does), so i want do it again!

i just relisted it after without the "not GTO, supra, impreza blah, blah, blah"! ;)

Glad to hear you got the fees back. Just relist it mate. Should be fine if you've got some positive feedback. I agree though, they could have sent you an automated email warning in advance asking you to check/change the title/description or anything.

thats all i wanted

i had loads o stuff ended by e bay.....they r the rules so cant complain really.

I found the best way round it is to list your "like" text in the free text part but do it in the same colour as the background...LOL....get away with it more than not...

yep, it takes a complaint from someone normally..you cant copy text or pics...you have NO right of appeal (they say you do but you dont)..you never actually get a refund...just a credit on your account...

you did wrong, they punished you....BUT its the way they punish you and the fact that everyone else gets away with it that it annoying. :headvswal

A warning via email and subject altered would of sufficed, instead of you losing out on the current bids :( :( :(
