PM Paul C and he can put you in touch with someone that has done a lot of cars on the forum very professionaly, he is based in kent

and its worth paying a bit more to get it done properly

Angus, thats about right as a quote m8, it costs that because of the size of the rear screen !!

Got a quote for mine, all 5 windows( rear 1/4's done already, but as they are jap tint, they mite not match the uk shade)

I asked for dark smoke on rear and rear 1/4's, and the legal light smoke on the doors so mr plod cant moan!!!!

TBH the guy i got the quote off is probably the guy Paul C uses, so deff give him a shout m8

HTH

;)

Thanx guys...

I am the window tinting daddy!! ;)

costs £200 per car, usually regardless of how many windows he does! top job tho :)

if you deffo want it doing let me know & i will see if he will do it any cheaper just for the 3 windows.

also, would have to be done on a sat morning at my garage in Canterbury

whilst on this subject, any ideas how to remove window tints?

my rear window tint has bubbles all over it :headvswal

Heat with a hairdryer and peel.

VERY slowly while maintaining heat.

Good idea for maintaining heat is to heat the glass thoroughly first.

Thinners removes any excess glue.

Jap stuff usually easy

i was told by a little birdy, with a ahite car, that... if i wanted my windows tinted, a bit darker than uk allows, if stopped i ould say.. theoretically that is.. and not saying im going to have them done or anything..

that i can just say that the car was imported like it and i would be ok.. is that true??

hypothetically speaking of course

regardless of who put the tints on, if yours are too dark (and the coppers do actually have a light measuring device for this) then you will be made to remove the tint film at the roadside before they will let you carry on.

I got 2 £30 tickets within 2 wks for fronts too dark

ok.. what if again theretically the glass itself was tinted not a film tint, then what??

Paul, gonna get crimbo out the way then give u a shout for that m8, if thats ok  ;)

Me as well Paul...will PM you after crimbo...cheers mate

If the glass is too dark, you have to remove the glass.

Law is simple - test it, if too dark, out it comes.

If you are lucky, you will get time to remove.

If you are unlucky, instant prohibition to drive notice.

If you are really unlucky - VOSA visiting a dealer, see the car, slap a prohibition notice on and you are not even there.

Ultimately if you don't remove them at the scene (the side window ones) because they are too dark you could get served a prohibition notice and that means either getting the car recovered or leaving where it is until you can get the prohibition lifted!

I thought the limit was the glass in front of the centee frame? So what is the % tint you can have on the car?

OH I LOVE THIS COUNTRY..ALL THESE WONDERFUL RULES AND REGS :headvswal :headvswal

I have a Lithuanian buddy who thinks the country is nuts.

"free country? where? when? for this you need that, for that you need this. licences for fishing? for a TV?(that gets him chuckling)"...

What he thiks is absolutely hilarious is a licence "for the DOG?"

Where he comes from, you go to the post office with your car licence and pay yer cash - you get an HGV licence.

Reckons this is one of the few countries he has been to where the cops don't take bribes to let you go...and there is less crime most places he has been!!!!!

This country has gotten nuts on laws with the tint thing just crazy.

The law was introduced back in the 80's when tint was a cloudy purple vinyl substance that nobody wanted.

No account was taken a year past in January that tint has come a long way since then and is now optically much much better than it was.

Legallimit is -

75% visible light must pass through the windscreen, 70% through the front windows, driver and passenger side, forward of the b-post.

If a car looks like it has been tinted, it's not legal.

That's how light the limit is.

An Astra from the factory with factory tint windows is AT the legal limit.

Crazy law, crazy contry, keeps folk in needless jobs and the uneployment figure down by, let's face it, employing chinless wonder beaurocrats(spelling :( ) who are useless in industry, commerce and life in general, doing sweet FA but persecuting (spell..) decent law-recognising individuals like youse and me.

Rant rant rant.

I'm off to Italy where the laws that seem unfair/stupid/take too long to read, are ignored by the cops.

Me as well Paul...will PM you after crimbo...cheers mate

no probs guys :)

To be honest all those licenses make sence, and are there for good reason. There not nessarily "permits", but a way of charging for those services .

However, Dog licensing was abolished 20 years ago. ;) (and was in place to assist with finding owners of lost dogs)
