I have been driving around in the TT for a while now and the only thing that bugs me about it is the turbo lag. OK, my car could not be performing right, as I'm only used to an NA I wouldn't know for sure yet, but everything seems to be fine. The NA just DID NOT (obviously) have that initial lag for standstill, but pulled right from when you put it into first gear and pressed go. This is one reason I would probably consider a naturally aspirated car in the future. I like the 350 - comparable, if not exactly the same power, but an NA engine. Now they are beginning to get to reasonable prices (350 on autotrader) they look quite good to me. Still not the same as a 300 though.

This is a totally uninformed opinion, but I found that there was noticably less lag with sequential turbos in my Soarer, even if it did not have the outright power of a 300. It seemed that way to me anyway from what I remember.

I don't like the lag at all - once it has started to boost - it's a different matter. I'd like to test my 0-60 to see what it can do from a standstill - I need to get a hold of a g-tech pro.

i like lag the lul you get when you change gear then wwwhhoooosssshhhhhh turbos kick in and pin you in the seat again

i just lurve it

there are several mods to help decrease the lag, for a real difference try fitting an Underdrive pulley ;) it will surprise you!

I've got an auto :). I do like the Power button! Does exactly what it says on the tin.

tell me if im wrong, but isnt turbo lag the decrease in power whilst you change gear, not the actuall spool up of the tubs from standing start

OK then maybe I've totally got this wrong. Maybe I should have called the thread 'spool up of the tubs from standing start'. That's what I meant anyway. Doesn't it have the same effect when I'm going along in my auto and I take my foot off the gas and let the boost drop off, then, back on and watch the boost build up again - spool up of the turbos rather than turbo lag? I don't know.

remember the n/a has a different gear ratio

a sequential set up will spool quicker as one turbo is smaller and takes less pressure/volume to move the impeller

I did consider a Soarer V8 as an alternative, but it just isn't the same as a 300.

change the rear diff for an n/a or of the n/a ratio and wait for the difference when u next drive it !! one of the best mods ive done so far !!

What does this actually do?

What does this actually do?

changes the gear ratio more acceleration/less topend

That sounds like a good thing to me.

You can fit Divorced Downpipes to decrease spool up time....

I have a AUTO>MAN conversion thus with the different tubbie set up.

My spool up is about 2-2500rpm :hyper:

Love the sound aswell but you need a trailer in tow to catch the bits that fall off. Honestly guy at work had one, it was like a comedy sketch!

A mate of mine bought a brand new one too, after 12 months of owning it he was that pissed off he took it back and they gave him trade price

LOL funny how we all look at cars in a different light,I HATE TREVERS! and no way would I ever buy one but I do like the sound of them :D

I don't like their image. I like the 300 as it's more or a normal human being's car not a tossermobile. I like to hear the engine, not the exhaust farting away. If I could have the power of my TT with the resonse and gearing characteristics of my NA I would be a happy man. After driving both I would say the manual NA is more fun. Not raw speed, but I did have a better feeling driving it.

Manual+TT=FUN :nana2:

:D :D :D

For a Turbocharged car, the 300zx has very very little lag and quick spool up.

However....I have noticed differences in lag/spool-up between different Zed's !

You'll either learn to live with it, or you'll always hate it like i did. You learn to drive around it to a certain extent, but you just don't have the adjustability or response of an NA and never will have.

Personally mate you are not driving it correctly.

You have to learn how and when to make the gear changes, how to pull off to cause min lag. Yes, if you are pootling a long and the floor it its less responsive until it gets the tubs up.

You could get turbos which should spool up sooner.

I know that :) - like I said in the first post I'm used to driving an NA zed and it's weird to get used to the characteristics of the TT. I don't get to make gear changes - the autobox does that for me. I think making major mechanical changes is not the answer for me, I was more making a comment about the car as a whole. I think my driving is probably a lot at fault. I don't tend to rev the tits off it although I felt more confident in the cars response whenI did rev the NA high - I seem to remember in the NA I didn't have to floor it to get a good response and I think to an extent you do have to do more of that in the TT - what I mean is you have to get it up to boost revs quick. Is that what you mean by not driving it right? I aggree with what you're saying, I think I get a bit scared by the sound of the car revving too high. Maybe part of it is having a louder exhaust than I was used to - it sounds more aggressive earlier in the revs. I'm a bit of a pussy driver all in all it has to be said.

If you want it to be quicker of the mark just plant it before you release the clutch, but you'll need to be careful you don't lose traction by excessive wheelspinning or (worse) just spin out completely. Maybe find an empty carpark to try it in.

Honestly mate, there is *just no way* an NA is quicker off the mark than a TT if you drive it correctly.... having said all of that every now and again (well, actually quite regularly) I get it wrong and end up trundling off the mark being whipped by a Cavalier 1.6 or something because I haven't bothered getting the revs up a bit before pulling off.
