It is a Canid - From the Vulpis genus, but not of the Canis genus (Domesticated dogs are from the Canis, as are wolves)

 

IIRC Domestic dogs and wolves fall under the term 'dog' but Jackals & foxes are a classification of their own with sub-classifications, but they are all canines :)

In the beginning there were only foxes, they were then bred as huskies in cold climates and then onto domestic pets.
