Sounds a lot of money ? I found a Convertible 300ZX in colchester yesterday on may way to work i had a good look at it this morning and i have to say its not nearly as good looking as the Targa model most of us drive £10K for one !! not for me you can pick up a used Viper for £14K or as Tooley said Used NSX etc.

Am i the only one who thinks the convertible is wrong ?

Convertables are always more expensive than their regular counterparts, no matter what the car. £10k is a lot of money though, I would of said more like £7-£8k, compard to current zed prices. Zed's are selling far too cheap as it is anyway.

early Supra TT's..etc still fetching £10k

Cheapest NSX on Autotrader is £12.5k, but most are over £16k. Nice cars, but no quicker than the Zed. They will fetch more though becuase of rarity.

Yep the convertibles are just not as good looking as a slick top or targa. you lose the lovely curves.

You can put your prices up all you want, but something is only worth what people are prepared to pay for it.

Dont agree totally with that, if someone wants the car and everyone selling hiked their prices up then they would have to pay more if they wanted it, hopefully the prices have bottomed out now and as more and more of the dogs are broken up smashed up and left to die the good ones will shine through and the prices will rise.

Its a lovely thought Richard, but unfortunately it wont become a reality.Mgh297 is spot on with his comment. And it applies to all articles for sale.

Price is always determined by what the purchaser will pay..

Remember too that there are still several thousand more in Japan that will make their way here by the boat load.So rarity will not occur in the forseeable future and prices will continue to be low or even lower in the future.

Britain is now approaching car saturation point all across the board.

Its a buyers market now and looks set to continue that way.

Surely now with decent TTs being sold for about £4k or less the import trade is going to die down, it must cost about that to bring in a car that you have never seen and will not know the true condition of?

As for the rest of what you have said, I am just off to cry into my glass of whiskey

Im sorry to upset you buddy , dont cry too much, we are all owners of fast depreciating assets!

From the evidence I have seen there is no danger at all of the import trade dying down.

The evidence of the UK oversupply is out there to see too.Huge Car Sales supersites with over 1000 cars in one place, and less obvious are the huge yards owned by the major auction companies that are permanently filled with cars awaiting auction. And the fields and fields of new cars parked all over Britain.

But it is the import trade that is the real downer of Jap car prices and when you realise how the system operates over there you will realise it aint going away.......

Cars in Japan are subject to tests in a similar way to our MOT test. However there are differences, and this is the start of the export trade. The Shaken(MOT) test gets more rigorous and more expensive as Jap registered cars get older. So it costs you more and is more hassle to hold on to an older car in Japan. So people are steered to replacing their cars frequently with NEW Jap cars. GREAT for the Jap car industry, But catch 22 appears... who (in Japan) wants to buy your old car??? Well nobody because of the aforementioned costly Shaken test!! So how do the Japs get round the problem ontheir overcrowded little Islands??? EASY.... Build several HUGE auction sites and auction them off in their THOUSANDS daily to anyone who wants a RHD car!

Well the rest is self explanatory. Enterprising companies buy them by the boat load and ship them here. Costs when you are doing it by the hundred are around £1000 or less I believe(dont have actual figures) and if you want to put something else inside one (say an extra engine in the backof a people carrier) it still costs the same to ship it. There will just be a little extra duty on the "declared value" of the engine.

Just a little UP SIDE to finish!!! There might be a few of them late "Version R and VersionS models " headin our way in the next few years.Hmmm! Tasty

And MAYBE one or two with FULL VEILSIDE kit fitted!!! for £4000?????

as said the lines are lost with a convertable not my cupa tea,but surely worth near as much as the asking price

Not my cuppa either Greg, BUT you have to admire Rag Top Robs Stunning example with its 19 wheels even if you dont really want to own it.

The convertible is MAYBE the one Zed that will hold its value due to rarity. Only around 1500 made IIRC

gotta agree - really dont like that white convertible.

What asses me off is like most - I paid £4K for my zed just over a year ago - spent a good £8-9K since on mods and repairs etc - and now its worth bout £3.5K :(

 Did they really only make 1500 convertibles ?

There were about 3300 convertibles made, I'm not sure where and how they all got dispersed. All were NA and were made in model years 93 to 96. There is a company called R. Straman Co that would convert twin turbo coupes to convertibles. For more info on them see here:
