Best way of finding out if you car is running well

How can I tell if its running OK?

Is a rolling road the only way? The reason I ask this is becuase I have never driven any other Z, nor have I been in any other Z while its moving.

How can I tell if my car is running lean?

Its running smooth and it started every time straight away. I cant complain about the power, its good, but I have nothing to compair to, except my friends Lancia Delta HF4 Turbo, which I can say has faster acceleration than that, just by feel.

Find a quiet long straight (private for this exercise) road and do a nought to a hundred. Get a mate with a stopwatch to time you. It'll never be dead accurate and the speedo might say 100 when you're really doing 96 but what the heck. It should be around 14 - 15 secs or thereabouts. If its way longer then you could be down on power but even a stock NA shouldnt be more than 20 seconds for the same.

My Auto TT did indicated 60 in an indicated 6.4 seconds without trying to toast the tyres.

PS dont blame me if you wear out your tyres, break the gear box, bent the propshaft etc etc. I once tore up a differential doing this in my young days - not a Z though but dumping the clutch at 5000rpm aint good for any car.

Or just be happy it runs so good! Enjoy!

My mate Nico says you should take the car off the road, strip it down for 3 months, leave the parts to 'air' for a year, then buy a whole load of new ones and finally spend 6 months rebuiling it.

And who are we to argue ?
