Had a new exhaust fitted at the weekend, and on the way back the speedo was acting very weird, where as it would drop dramatically from say 80mph to 60mph in a flash. It did it a couple of times and I got home fine so didn't thinik anymore of it.

Anyway, this morning, started the car up fine, but when I press the clutch pedal down, it makes a noise similiar to a starter motor that gots stuck, but cant be the starter motor as it started fine.

I then turned the car off, started up again, depressed the clutch and it didn't make a noise, went through all the gears including reverse, and then depressed once more, and it started again, so I left it as was running late for work.

Any ideas at all people?.

The first problem (speedo dropping from 80 to 60 mph) sounds like it could be the speed sensor. Guess that there is a risk that the conenction was touched when the exhaust was fitted (I think the sensor is on the side of the gearbox). I would check the cable/connector to the speed sensor first. Also, it could be a "speedo converter box" (if you have one) that is acting up, but you have just changed the exhaust.

The second problem sounds like "clutch throw out bearing" related problem to me. The Throw Out Bearing would engage when you press the clutch pedal.

Thanks for that advice, at least I have something to go on now. Not being a hands on person with cars, do I take the assumption that I shouldn't really drive the car, or not much if the clutch throw out bearing is at fault?.
