gsxr 600 good first bike after ya pass, you'll need your CBT, theory test and direct access test pass first. i think with a cbt only you are allowed to ride a 125 or any bike upto 33bhp with L's on I THINK!

i found the direct access test a fookin joke, SO EASY!!!!

hey Allan,

Something like a Suzuki 600 Bandit, Yamaha Fazer or Honda CB600F Hornet are great first bikes, they are all available unfaired and half faired, if your after a fully faired bike, something like the GSX600F is OK, but its very old in design now!!

Whilst learning, you can ride upto a 125cc (12hp) once passed your full test you can ride anything only unless you decide on a restrited liecense in which you can ride upto any bike aslong as its restricted to 33hp for the first 2 years, thereafter you can jump on anything you like :D

If you need any advise gimme a shout bud!!

Also a good bloke to speak to would be our own Craig David on here aswell :)

All the best

cheers guys, ive always wanted a bike, bvut my family and g/f dont want me to get one, same old same o they think i will kill myself, but that is what they said about my zed

im very unexpirinced in bikes so any help is gratefully appreciated

If you are thinking about a full bike licence and you want to ride more than 33hp (RGV 250 is more than that!) it's better to do the direct access sooner rather than later as I've heard that the powers that be are trying to scrap the direct access test.

Chris.

Ah, bless yer Chunk - you're a gent.

As for bikes I would suggest exactly those. The Bandit's the tamest. Possibly a Suzuki SV650.

I worked as a motoring journalist on a major motorbike mag for the last 5 or 6 years (I just left) and I've ridden pretty much every bike available in that time.

I'm about to buy a bike myself (after years of free ones!) and I think I'm gonna get a Fazer 600. It's a great bike for a beginner or someone with a bit more experience.

Teapots bikerclub is a great forum and autotrader.co.uk has a superb section of loads of machines for sale.

for all your friendly answers

i quite like that rvf400 on your site , ive actually been onthe back of one and nearly shat myself

im i right in saying that they are inport only (as i was told)

Yes RVF400 is import only.

Great bike - built to an incredibly high spec with top quality parts.

It's predecessor (the VFR400) was sold (briefly) in the UK and cost the same as Honda sports 1000 they sold at the same time (about £6K but that was 1989). The RVF and VFR are part of Hondas top-draw, racy NC/RC family of bikes.

On the down side they're small and fetch high prices used for quite old bikes.

you certainly know your stuff, the more i talk about it the more i want it

just another nail in my coffin lol

i did direct access. did cbt first, then had a day on a 500 then another half day on it then me test. passed first time and couldnt beleive it!

my first bike was a suzuki rf600 (got the 900 later). must say the rf was a very underated bike, and comes a bit cheaper than your gsxr and cbr 600.

hope you do well with the lessons!

iv got a vfr 400r nc30 quick bike but small in size ideal for anyone under 6ft id imagine

the rvf is the slightly newer model still got the single sided swingarm and is almost identical to the vfr

If you are over 21 then i would say do your direct access test then you can ride what ever bike you want ;) unfortunalty you wont get insurance on a GSXR600 as a first bike :( if you can it will be well high price.

As chunk says the above bikes are good first bikes ;) or for that little bit of fun the Suzuki SV650 ( which is a Twin ) is a bloody good bike and lower on insurance

never thpought about the insurance side of things, for some reason i just assumed all models would be about the same

should have known better really

thanks lads some good advice there am really looking forward to doing it now just got to save some cash up for it lol

I have done my cbt and am about to finish off the direct access.

I have been riding for about 6 months on a 125.. hey its cheaper than my zx.. but i only work about 4 miles from home... just lazy.

so anyway great fun. do it and buy that 600!!!! forget insurance.. youll laugh with that and road tax compared to the zed.

I did the direct access course, passed after third attempt, had a brand new Honda CBR 600FX carbon fibre exhaust, dyno jetted etc, waiting for me in a showroom, I loved my bike, then a silly old fooker of 83 years young did'nt see me and pulled out in front of me, couple of metal plates and pins later, I sold what was left of my £6995 bike for £275. So be carefull what you jump on to after passing your test.

That could easily happen on a CG125, best thing to do is treat every car as a hazard, especially as most of them are anyway.
