what problems have you had with your z and what should i look out for?

pretty much what the thread title says :)

its a while til i buy my first zed but i wana know as much about them before i do, so i don't get burnt like i did with my first car, a '74 beetle (with no heater, bought a few months before xmas!).

what problems have you guys had, what are common faults, how much do they cost in repairs and what should i look for (problem-wise) when it does come to buying one?

Don't have one yet, but I've understood they are EXPENSIVE :) But it really depends on how it's been serviced and taken care off...

On my old NA:

Clutch Slave Cylinder £150

Clutch Master Cylinder £350

Bald tyres after a few thousand miles £150 each :)

Series 1 PTU going £90

I think these are fairly common problems

you have got to take in consideration they are at there oldest 15 years old cant expect to buy a performance car of that age to be 100% reliable and as ken said it depends on how they are looked after. i brought my na cos i want to use it everyday to and from work and also i couldn't afford to replace turbos if they fail as its an engine out job.

buy a good one it will last forever buy a mistreated one and it will eat your credit card and you will be on first name terms with your bank manager.!

had mine a year had to replace clutch slave n master (only master was faulty) new battery one split hose and thats about it oh and fuel pressure reg thats with a few mods startin to suffer from the old smokey turbo though but runnin 15psi of boost with decat so its to be expected really. as for cost it depends on how much ya can do yourself most garages dont know what there doin with em so be carfull who u use.on a hole they are a very reliable car BUY ONE

I have had no problems really. I had a dodgy tyre (rear) But as far as the car is concerned mate. Touch wood. I have been lucky and had nothing go wrong. All I can say is when you come to buying your 300 buy it from this site. I dont know anyone on here that will stitch you up and if they did, I am sure they would get some heavy pressure to sort it out with you? Low miles, history, is all things that matter. I hope this helps.

there as reliable as the owner who had it before TBH best bet is to take a member from here and check it over with you mine i had 2years not a single problem other than a viscous fan £25 second hand :duffer:

others have been un lucky new turbos new engine can lead to bills of thousands so make sure you tread carefully, and as said take someone who knows along with you! buy a manual tranny if poss autos tend to suffer and die!

they are a supercar so expect some bills :)

Just the usual probs on a car that's 14 years old: radiator, battery, starter motor + routine "consumables": tyres, wiper blades. Apart from that it's been excellent. Always starts on the button, runs nice and smooth and gives me 24mpg.

Some of the stock problems are; worn bolster on the drivers seat, oil pressure sender, glovebox latch, slow retracting seatbelts, digital clock and the OEM tailgate spoiler cracking and soaking up water. All can be fixed for little money using Breakers and Individuals in the Items for Sale forum.

Give us a shout if you look at car nearby we are down the road and can try and steer you in the right direction, greg or I might even know the car!

only dirty connections causing a misfire, starter motor is a bit iffy too, both common issues. Touch wood its been fine other than that.
