Hiya folks.

Just fitted an MPH chip to the back of the clocks.

Followed the instructions and took the car out for a wee spin.

Speedo reads what I cinsider to accurate - up to about 28mph, then flicks down a few times, then needle goes to zero.

Over 28mph, reading is zero, at 28mph when slowing up, need le comes back to 28mph and accurately measures speed til rest.

In short - speedo accurate under 28mph. All other speeds reads zero.

 

I've fitted a few of these chips to other cars with no problems.

 

Any ideas?

Guy I bought it from said it worked fine in his auto(mine is auto as well).

 

ps - Celica gen6 is exactly the same - they probably all are, just with different instructions

seen this either you have a short! check wireing and make sure you have used the correct signal kph-mph

 

or im afraid the delimiter is up the creek,check wires first

Speedo now goes to 40mph b4 screwing with my head.

Also - I don't remember the reversing bleep being ther b4 I got into the back of the clocks.

Steering gets noticably heavier now when over aprox 35mph.

 

Will check wiring on Friday.

Fortunately I have another chip to try.

either wires not connected properly or delimiter at fault

Results getting wierder -

Over the weekend I had the car up to 95mph(on a private road, which a lot of folks use) and the speedo was fine, steering was fine.

I know there are a lot of complaints and wee niggles about the Z, but mine has been fine, and if it continues to heal itself, I am not gonna complain. :)

 

Having said that,I'm not holding my breath that the car will be ok on the next journey, but will leave alone until it screws up.

Now it's just getting silly.

Does the car have an electronic bit of kit that recognises a fault and goes and fixes it?

Cos the speedo seems ok now.

Haven't had time to get the clocks back out so have left it alone for now, but the thing is working.

I'll wait and see.

The self heal chip for that chip must've packed up and gone home.

Problem returned - swapped the chip, all is now well.
