Hi Leigh

It would appear that I am the only one on the forum (and the planet by the looks of it!!) that has a unichip at the moment. I don't know anyone else who has a unichip on their zed. Initial problems I had that I thought were down to the unichip (like rough idle) were due to other parts / sensors on the engine not working properly. If you want my honest opinion I would say that for the cost of £450.00 you get quite good value for money. The chip can be continually mapped as and when you do more modifications to the car. That being the case though (as a few of the guys would point out) the chip would only be as good as the technician who is mapping it. But if you go to a authorised dealer you should be ok.

When I had mine installed I did the intake and removed the cats on the exhaust at the same time. What a difference it made, like night and day. If you do go this route as with any BHP upgrade be prepared to uprate the clutch. The extra power on mine chewed my stock clutch up and spat it out for arse paper within three weeks. I think anyone who has not done some sort of ECU, Exhuast and Intake upgrade on their Zed is missing out on some real fun. Check all the other options aswell Leigh before you buy. If you do want a word with the firm that did mine they are called Millway Sport and their phone number is 01264 336344. Very helpful guys, I am sure they can give you more detailed information.

Hope this helps M8.

if i thought that my 140k+ miler engine could stand the extra power, then i would have had a Unichip installed already Leigh.

once i have done a rebuild, then that is the route i will take.

Simon, the 6 coils issue is an often brought up problem with the unichip and zed, did you have any modifications done for that ? Or is it one of those Urban Myths ? wink.gif

Yeah it is a popular move on the cars in SA (the 300s) as all other ecus are very expenisive.

I know of one 300zx over there with unichip intercoolers and exhasut ecu running high 11.s over the 1/4 mile so i think once worked out it would be a very good mod.

Rare motorsport will fit one for you and they know how to set them up so it can be done.

Leigh, the Uni-chip has come along way from when it 1st came out some years ago in th UK, yes some of the early ones had problems with Zeds due to them having 6 coil packs and one of the leads on the unit is supposed to go to the coil, however there are newer versions of it now, as it's a piggy back version too, no interfearing with ECU and removable to another car, at all times it is mappable, the average cost including setting up is usually £420.00, so not bad, yes you can buy cheaper, but you can actually see this working on your car with the aid of a laptop, so choice is yours, warrens right about rare motorsport, the uni-chip comes from SA and so does the guy who will fit it there (i think)they also do engine managment systems of the same make (dasek) which have proved very succesful out SA, cheers, smithy cool.gif

yeah smithy Domingoes there actully is the man to speak to, Dasek is very big among the small cars.

Some of the cars over there are very very very quick regarding top speeds 1/4mile ext (ie we stand no chance here id think)

so for a tuning aspect they are good.

Hi Craig

No i did not have to do anything like that. From what I can gather (as Smithy has said) it is just a piggy back unit that also has a boost controller sat by the side of it. Did not have anything done with the coils. The main problem I had was when I first it was first done. The chip put on got corrupted and the info on it got mothered. Sods law, as this supposedly only happens on a very rare occasion. The problem was sorted out and the car is running fine now. Not being to knowledgable about this but I assume that this chip retains the stock features of the ecu until you give the car some shit. Then it cuts in and does it's bit with the fuel map and the boost.

Millway sport that did the chip do rolling road days for car clubs and said that they would be happy to do a club day for us if we want. They have a nice set up on an industrial estate in Andover with loads of parking. They did a VW club day with their rolling road a few months back. My car was up there at the time. The staff there said that they had all these corrado's and golfs lined up with mine sat in the middle. All the people just converged on my car with most wondering what it was ( it was de-badged at the time). Well if we want to do a club day there I would be happy to get some prices and some more information. Let me know what you think.

seez ya!!

Thanks to everyone for the response. The reason I am asking, is my ZED is a JAP import, and although its already chipped, this chip would be for JAP fuel, and OPTIMAX is the highest octane we can get. I am a bit worried about the engine going boom.

The car has some mods, but as time goes by, I will be adding a few more, and want a chip which can be modified to suit the changes. Sound like the UNICHIP is just the deal.
